When someone bangs on your door early in the morning, you will certainly be alarmed. Some of us might even feel frustrated that someone is not respecting our privacy and keeps disturbing us, while others may be worried and fear that someone is trying to invade their home.
This is what Gladys Castaneda thought when, being home alone with her two daughters, someone kept banging on her front door early in the morning.
The woman, who had had a Ring doorbell installed on her front door, admitted that without it, she wouldn’t have opened the door.
“Without Ring, I don’t think I would ever have opened the door, because in my mind I thought they were breaking in,” she said.
Her not answering the door could have proved fatal, since the neighbor who had been banging on her door and windows non-stop was trying to warn her that the house next door was on fire and her property was at risk, too.
“When it’s a fire that big, minutes can turn into devastation. Who knows what could have happened?” the mother wondered.
In the video that was recorded by her Ring camera, one can see the neighbor frantically rushing to the woman’s door and knocking at it hard.
The woman, whose husband had left home early that morning to go to work, was at the time alone with her two daughters in their Arizona home.
When she woke up, she initially thought that someone was trying to break in, but then she went on her Ring app and took a look at what was going on outside her door.
That’s when she saw her neighbor. She was perplexed; she had no idea what was going on.
“Can I help you?” we can hear her ask in the video. “The house next door to you is on fire,” the man yelled. “Your house is almost on fire.”
The woman can be heard saying “Ok, ok. Thank you, Thank you!” and she obviously stops talking to him because she has a more important task: to wake up her little kids and take them to a safe place.
“I immediately jumped out of my bed and ran to my eldest daughter’s Emily’s room in the dark. I didn’t realise there was smoke inside her room until I turned on the light,” the woman recalled, according to Daily Mail.
In the meantime, the man goes back and forth trying to warn other neighbors.
Only moments later, the door opens and we can see the woman holding her daughter coming out and asking the man for help.
The man, without thinking twice, takes the girl in his hands and runs across the street.
A few moments later, the woman reappears at the door holding her younger daughter, Victoria. The man is still there ready to help.
Another couple of seconds later, the woman leaves the house, running across the street to reunite with her children.
Luckily, the woman’s property was unaffected by the fire and the family returned home safely.
Thanks to this man’s kindness and persistence, a tragedy was avoided.
