Do you believe that things happen for a reason?
In life, one of the things that you can’t explain is how the tiniest or the silliest mistake can create a chain of events that can be good or bad.
Just last month, Shahid Davis opened his Chipotle app and decided to order his meal. A few minutes had passed, as usual; he looked on the app’s map to see how close the driver was to his home.
Then, he realized something. He realized that the map he was looking at was hundreds of miles away.
It was a big mistake, and he totally forgot about it.
You see, the last time Davis ordered from this restaurant was when he was staying in a hotel in Iowa. The problem now is that he forgot to update his delivery address.
He was supposed to change the app’s address to his home. His home is in Hagerstown, Maryland. So, he quickly called Chipotle and asked if they could update the delivery address.
Unfortunately, the order was already out for delivery. They can’t do anything about it anymore.
Too bad it was already too late. After a few minutes, Davis received a text message from the rider, letting him know they were there.
“I’m here with your order,” the person texted Davis.
There was nothing Davis could do at this point. The food he ordered was already paid, so that’s good, at the least. He’d hate to inconvenience the rider and the restaurant.
“Take it with you bro and enjoy the lunch,” Davis responded. “I forgot to change my address and I currently in Maryland,” he replied.
“Umm…okay thanks,” the food delivery rider texted back.
Davis didn’t expect another text message coming from the food delivery guy. That reply touched Davis’ heart that he posted their conversation on his Facebook account.
“I wanted to thank you again,” the food delivery rider wrote. “It’s my brother’s birthday today and he is laid to rest not far from where you had me take this delivery. I’m having lunch with him today because of you. You have no idea how much that means to me. I truly appreciate it.”
It was the twist we didn’t expect – at all.
Anyone in Davis’ shoes would have felt irritated for not being able to change his address, missing his lunch, and wasting money. That’s normal.
Little did Davis know that this one mistake led a man to be with his brother, who had passed away. One tiny mistake turned into something beautiful and special.
That would make anyone teary-eyed.
In an interview with Upworthy, Davis explained that everything changed when he received the message.
“[I] felt like I made an impact in his life even though I don’t know the person’s name or anything about them. But it doesn’t matter at the end because I did something to help brighten his day up!”
Davis posted the screenshot of their conversation, and it went viral, gaining 191K reactions from people all over the world.
“I think we humans all have a kind soul inside, we just have to push out the negativity and push out kindness,” Davis said in his interview. “Only we can make the world a better place.”
Indeed, who wouldn’t feel good about a story like this? It’s inspiring to know that somehow, we could impact other people’s lives.
