Can you remember your first car? Or if not the first, your favorite? A lot of people have a specific vehicle they look back on fondly and can’t help but smile. After all, cars offer a lot of memories for us.
But most people don’t decide to keep those cars well after they’ve driven them into the ground. Instead, they’ll trade them in for something new. Usually, they’re only left with a few photos to remind them of all the good times they had in that special car.
One grandpa did things differently
Some people are especially fond of their cars. Once they get that special ride, they just don’t want to let it go. That’s the case for a grandpa named Fred.
A beautiful car
Fred bought his 1957 Chevy Bel Air when he was 28 years old. He drove it around quite a bit. But instead of selling it when it was time to get something new, he held onto it.
Time had taken its toll
As you can imagine, a car isn’t going to look its best after it’s been around for a few decades. Over the years, it’ll go through a lot of wear and tear, even when it’s not being driven regularly. That’s why Fred’s car wasn’t looking its best as it aged.
All about family
If there was one thing Fred loved more than his car, it was his grandson, Cam. The two were inseparable. Cam even said they were best friends.
Cam had a brilliant idea
Fred’s grandson knew just how much the vehicle meant to his grandpa. So, he decided to do something for this special person in his life. With a birthday coming up, he put together a plan.
Restoring the Chevy
Cam wanted Fred to have his ’57 Chevy like new again. That’s when he started working on restoring it. Although it took him a long time to complete the project, the time he spent resulted in something beyond beautiful.
The best birthday present ever
Cam decided to give Fred his gift on his 81st birthday. Can you imagine what an amazing birthday gift that’d be from his grandson? Cam truly went above and beyond to give his grandpa the most memorable day possible.
Capturing it on video
In the video, you can see Cam showing his grandpa the car for the first time since it’d been restored. The family blindfolded Fred so he couldn’t see anything until he took it off. When he finally removed the blindfold, you can tell Fred was blown away.
Overcome with emotion
As soon as Fred realizes that Cam restored his vehicle, you can see him get emotional. He places his hand on his head, just trying to take in how great the car looks. All this is happening while Cam explains to him that it’s a project he’s been working on for quite some time.
Such a sweet family moment
A beautiful moment shared by this family is so sweet to see. It’s amazing to watch as different generations bond over a common interest. Hopefully, this grandpa and grandson stay close for many more years to come.
