There are some things that just break your heart. In one video, something truly horrible happens in broad daylight for all to see – a grandmother walking with her small grandkids is approached by a male stranger. The reason? He was a thief looking to steal… not her possessions, but her kids.

At the start of the traffic cam footage, we see a typical scene. The grandma, the woman in the yellow sweater, is walking towards the edge of the street, waiting to cross. With her are her three grandkids, a little girl and twin boys. As we watch, however, we see a man covering himself with a blanket walk up to the family. In a quick motion, he snatches up the smallest child, the little girl, and takes off running.

As she runs off camera, we see the twin boys standing on the street corner hysterical and crying. What we also happen to see, just near the end, is people starting to notice what is going on. Although the event is confusing and heartbreaking to see, good people stopped it from becoming a tragedy.

In the ensuing moments, the bystanders watching the event and the grandma were able to corner the man.

Surrounding the offender, a group of everyday good Samaritans kept him from running any further. Once the man realized that he was trapped, he placed the child down and took off running. Grabbing his scooter parked nearby, he was soon out of sight. The fleeing man was caught on camera in his last moments running away.

Later, in an interview, more details were revealed about the chase.

One of the bystanders who lept to action was a man named Furman Brassera. He told Inside Edition:

“[Four people went after him], plus the grandmother. The grandmother got close… but nobody was able to grab him.”

Another woman was shouting “put her down, put her down!” as the man was running.

The mother of the child explained how the little girl was doing.

Although she was shaken up, she was going to be ok. The little girl didn’t have any injuries and was mostly just scared. Referring to her mother (the grandmother on scene), the woman explained just how amazing and brave she was to have even tried to run after the unhinged man.

Thankfully, the man was later apprehended and taken in.

The man was found three hours later, a 27-year-old Santiago Salsado. Police found him laying down in the middle of a store’s automatic doors, fast asleep. Strange as it was, people are happy to have him off the streets where he could have potentially hurt himself and others. As he was being arrested, he was grinning from ear to ear.
