For whatever reason, there always seems to be a rivalry between boys and girls when they are growing up. It’s believed that girls should stick to “girl things” and boys should stick to “boy things,” but in this video by JoJo Johnson, she puts those gender norms to rest by giving us everything she has got.
In the beginning of the video, a group of young girls are scene tossing around a football when all of a sudden a group of young boys swing in and steal the ball from them. Obviously, this upsets the girls.
“What are girls doing with a football anyways?” The boy says.
Now the girls are heated, so they decide to challenge the boys.
“Listen up ladies all across the school, we gonna rule this place, got a couple of rules,” JoJo Johnson begins to sing as music kicks in.
As the ladies address their drama with the other group, they come over and hand them a paper that says “dance battle” on it. The boys’ egos are blown out of proportion so of course, they accept the battle (after teasing them with the football some more).
“We can settle this with a dance battle!” JoJo sings. After that, it’s off to the races. The girls start first, whipping out some of their best moves with nothing but pride, sass, and confidence.
Then the video cuts to the boys’ team who break some serious moves, and they honestly do a great job too!
“Drama by the swing set, I don’t think so / They ‘gon have to dance for the top spot, yo / Make this place jump / Make it rattle rattle,” they sing.
The mood in the video is obviously super competitive — it is a battle after all — but they also seem to be having a lot of fun with it. It’s like they’re being silly by making fun of each other which makes for a really entertaining clip.
The boys earn the first round but the girls aren’t disheartened. Instead, they continue on to the next round with some of their most impressive moves yet.
“Watch us come back harder, smarter / Come back a vengeance / So how you gonna feel when you’re the one coming in second?” She sings. Nothing but pure confidence from these little girls and we are so here for it.
The girls come back with another set of moves and, just like they promised, they absolutely smashed it. They are so well-rehearsed and lean into every move so naturally, we hope they consider more dancing in the future!
We have to say that the second round for the boys was also very strong, too. You will have to watch the rest of the video for yourself to see who wins the battle!
The video was only uploaded last year and it went viral, gaining over 71 million views — that is a lot of views! And totally deserved, as all of these children smashed the challenge.
While this is all a fun joke, it’s pretty entertaining to witness such a high level of competitiveness. There is a pretty good chance that you’ll feel empowered while watching this. You can’t help but want to root for the group of girls!
It’s nice to know that if someone ever bothers you, you can just challenge them to a battle and dance it out. Seems like a pretty great way to settle arguments, if you ask us. Is this a method you’d be willing to try?!
