It’s always inspiring to see kids doing things to change the world. No matter how small they may be, or how small they think the act may be, they aren’t just making a difference in the lives they showed kindness, they’re inspiring everyone else to do the same.
Eleven year old Holli loves to sew. Her life was affected by the COVID 19 pandemic when her sewing class was canceled and she could no longer learn and create things withing her favorite hobby. Or so she thought.
Growing up in a densly populated area near Atlanta, Georgia, she saw that there were a lot of health care workers that were in need of masks for their saftey. They were putting their lives at risk to take care of others, why shouldn’t someone take care of them?
Using her own sewing machine and a mask pattern that she found she began making masks for the hospital. In the early stages of her project she set the goal of making 250 reusable masks. Well she did more than just crush that goal.
After she learned that she had the skills to do it, she saw on the news that some areas of her home state were mandating that masks be work in all public areas. Holli wasn’t scared or worried about her own health necessarily at first, she thought of all the people out there who didn’t have access to disposable masks who were putting their safety and the safety of others at risk.
Once again, she took to her sewing machine, armed with a handful of colorful patterns and decorated fabrics. This time her goal was 1,200.
She’s now nearly halfway to her goal! With the help of her Pastor, who delivers the masks to shelters and the people he meets, Holli is on her way to crushing her goal and getting handmade masks to everyone who needs them. Good morning America has even heard about her!
“She’s a little girl who wanted to be a part of something big. None of us really knew how big it would go,” said her mom April. April isn’t just proud of how big her daughter’s heart is, but she’s also proud of the drive she has to pursue a lofty goal like this one.
Holli also has the support of her local church rallying behind her. “”It’s her own initiative,” her Pastor said. “It wasn’t something that someone planted in her. She took it on herself to be a blessing to others.”
With ambitious goals like these and a heart full of generosity, at just age 10, theres no limit to what Holli’s future holds. The things that this little girl is doing for herself, her community, and the world is truly inspiring. Holli is being that positive light that everyone could use right now.
