Child adoption is not an easy thing to do.

The parents-to-be need to be determined and patient until all the steps of the adoption process have been taken. It can take a long time until a person or couple who has started the adoption process actually takes the child home, but it’s definitely worth it.

First of all, it is much better for the child to be adopted than live in a hospital or any other institution for surrendered children.

Besides, it allows people who are facing fertility issues, single men and women, and same-sex couples to become parents.

In Pablo Fracchia’s case, the reason why he hadn’t become a father before adopting his daughter was that he was a single gay man. There was no other way he could become a parent than to adopt.

In fact, Pablo had always wanted to become a father, but in a world wherein many countries- being gay is still punishable, it seemed like a dream.

But, thankfully, sometimes dreams do come true. And Pablo’s dream came true two years after he started the adoption process.

Pablo Fracchia is a social worker, former Red Cross volunteer, and LGBTQI+ activist. He is working for the LGBTQ+ Federation of Argentina, and he is happy that his country was one of the first Latin American countries and tenth in the world to legalize same-sex marriage in 2010.

Still, when the time to sign the adoption papers in 2017, he felt unsure that a day would actually come that he would hold his child in his arms.

Two years later, he received a call from the local family judge, telling him that there was a little girl (one year and ten months old) who had been living in a hospital for about a year.

As he found out, the toddler had a gastrointestinal condition that needed medical attention. Her parents couldn’t cope with that, so she was taken in by the hospital temporarily until she found a new home.

At the time, there were four families that could be matched with the child, but the objective judge decided to give Pablo a chance.

Unlike what some might have expected, the judge didn’t care about any prejudices and discrimination against gay people, so he decided Pablo was the most appropriate candidate to take the child in.

Soon after the decision, Pablo was asked to go to the hospital and meet Mia. Indeed, he went there and when he saw her, they immediately fell in love with each other.

Pablo and Mia are a great family today. Dad Pablo and his daughter have a great time together and they can’t imagine being separated.

Pablo admires Mia’s strength:

“If I have to use two words to describe Mia, it would be ‘resilience’ and ‘power.’ This girl survived in every single possible way as she had a rough start in her health, with a lot of challenges and she fought and faced them alone at only months of age,” he told Bored Panda.

The man wishes more people fought for their rights and their dreams. He knows that when his daughter is by his side, he can achieve anything!
