As a kid, we grow up looking forward to things that we don’t as adults anymore. When we are little, we look forward to our teeth falling out and getting paid for it. As adults, when our teeth fall out, it’s US who has to pay for it!
These little routines and special moments define our childhood!
Getting to ride in a firetruck as a little boy is a dream that most 5-year-olds have. It’s those little moments that make the world come alive around us and allows us to feel special at the moment. In my opinion, a good, healthy childhood is full of these moments!
One of the most famous “kid things” that you get to do is to make a truck honk its horn!
Remember driving down the highway and your parents telling you to stick your arm out the window to get the truck next to your car to honk? In childish glee, you would pump your arm up and down until the truck driver either did it or had to ignore you!
The payoff was always worth the effort.
When you spent a few minutes trying to get the attention of the truck driver, and he finally notices you, it’s all worth it. That booming horn always brings smiles to kid’s faces, especially knowing they are the ones who caused it!
One little girl made the memory of a lifetime doing something similar.
Most of us have heard a truck hong its horn. What’s 20x louder than a truck horn? A ship’s foghorn!
“They run 149 decibels,” Territo says. That’s nine decibels louder than the point at which a person starts to feel pain.” – KQED
Foghorns aren’t used all that often nowadays, but when they go off, everyone knows about it.
A little girl in Sweden was caught trying to make her own “truck honking memories” and got a lot more than she bargained for! In Varberg Port, Sweden, a cargo ship is setting off with an empty load. It probably just delivered all it needed to and is heading out of the harbor for open sea.
A little girl and her mom are watching the ships come in and out when she gets an idea.
Vilma, the little girl, see the green ship coming and decides to get it to honk its horn. With classic childish enthusiasm, she begins pumping her arm up and down to get the captain’s attention.
From this distance, it’s unlikely the captain sees a little girl on the shoreline.
Despite the odds, Vilma enthusiastically continues to try and get the captain’s attention. For nearly thirty seconds, Vilma stands and waves her arms as her hope for a honk gets lower and lower.
Finally, she is seen.
When the cargo ship sees Vilma standing on the shore, asking for the horn, he obliges. Ripping the foghorn, it blasts across the water and knocks the camera up in the hands of Vilma’s mom!
Vilma immediately reacts and starts crying!
The noise was so loud that she couldn’t help but jump back and cry! Vilma made a childhood memory that day, just not the one that she will remember fondly!
