Costumes, candy, parties, and spooks. October 31 is the one day of any year where kids and even adults get to play dress up and walk around the neighborhood in the hopes of raising their sugar content.

Dressing up as their favorite characters and going trick-or-treating around the neighborhood have kids socializing and taking photos with their friends. And by the end of the festive evening, kids get to sort out their baskets before indulging in those sweet treats.

Adults play a huge role on Halloween. They either leave baskets full of candy on a table or wait for kids to come knock on the door before they hand out treats. Adults make cool costumes too!

A young boy who was trick-or-treating in Gambrills, Maryland encountered a dilemma on Halloween night.

Jackson Champagne, dressed as that Transylvanian blood sucker, Dracula, showed up on a door camera. Then he sees the empty bowl on the porch, and like any kid, looked disappointed.

“Oh no,” he said. “There ain’t no more candy.”

Little Dracula contemplated for a second what he was to do. Jackson dug deep in his heart and what he did next was truly amazing. The selfless little boy reached into his bag of goodies and refilled the empty bowl with his own stash of candy. And not just once but twice!

Dracula’s little sister Gracie and his mom, Danielle Champagne, were with him that night.

Mom was beaming with pride at what her son did.

“I had a moment, a mommy moment, and I was, like, patting myself on the back, ‘Aww, that’s my son,’” she said.

The homeowner, Kevin Hodges, was at work when he saw the video of Jackson. He then sent it to his wife, Leslie, who in turn posted it on Facebook.

“I was actually watching it with the guys on my shift as Jackson dug into his bag and put candy in the bowl, so I immediately made a clip of it and sent it to (my wife) and said, ‘Check this kid out. You won’t believe it,’” he said.

Leslie knew that the world just had to see this kid’s super selfless act. Totally the opposite of his costume’s character!

“For a child to do that without being prompted, it was really nice, so I said other people need to see this,” she said.

Little Jackson wanted other kids to have a great night like he was. He went out of his way to make sure they had their fill of sweets. What a great little guy!

“It’s something you try to teach your kids without pushing it on them or forcing it on them, you know, giving back,” said Jackson’s dad, Tyler Champagne.

Back in Halloween 2018, another little boy named Hayden Chaple, who was eleven at the time, did the same thing when he took out some of is candy to refill a neighbor’s empty bowl of treats intended for other trick or treaters.

Those other kids had a great night that’s for sure. Kids like Jackson and Hayden are the reason Halloween can be such a wonderful evening.
