Nowadays it’s so rare to find true friends, but if you are lucky enough and you do find some, you usually do your best to cherish and protect them. We can only assume that what applies to humans can well enough apply to animals too, especially the stray ones.
In the street, you might encounter strays in groups that’s because dogs are descendants of wolves so they usually adopt the pack mentality, for the stray dogs their friends are their family. As the dogs are considered social creatures, they love being part of a group.
The following story is going to move even the most austere among us. It’s a declaration of love and loyalty among friends. Only, though, the characters of our story are our four-legged friends. Our story took place two years ago in Lanzhou, in central China, when five dogs were trying to cross a busy road.
Unfortunately, only four of them made it to the opposite side of the road, as their poor friend was killed by a careless and cold-hearted human driver who didn’t have the dignity to even stop and acknowledge what he had just done.
When the rest of the dogs realized that their friend hadn’t followed them and saw him lying in the middle of the street unmoving, they rushed to his side.
Their poor friend was already dead. However, witnesses who happened to be present when the tragic incident occurred said that the dogs hadn’t realized that their friend had already died. So, they refused to leave his body alone while trying to nuzzle him into action.
Another also tragic aspect of the incident was the human indifference towards the whole incident. Not only the driver hadn’t stopped after hitting the poor dog, but also afterward none of the people passing by actually stop to help.
A video posted on YouTube, shows the dogs staying still amidst the running cars, guarding their friend’s body, only leaving when someone went to collect the body of the dog. The video was posted on Weibo, a Chinese social media, where viewers commented on the tragic incident and voiced their anger.
On YouTube as well, many were those who condemned the people’s behavior and indifference towards the dogs. One wrote, “I always say, Dogs should have been the dominant species on this planet instead of humans!! They are smarter, more passionate, and treat each other with dignity and arent racists towards each other!!”.
This story definitely gives an insight into the people’s often cruel treatment of animals and also inspires you to try and be more like our four-legged friends, more loyal and caring.
