One of parents’ worst nightmares is their child getting abducted by a stranger.
Indeed, thinking that your child could be lured by a stranger and taken away from you just makes your heart sink. And that’s why children need to be suspicious when approached by strangers.
One of the most important tips given to children in order to keep them safe from stranger danger is that they should always trust their instinct and go away from people who they don’t know or who look suspicious.
Children should also know that they shouldn’t be afraid of seeking help when followed by someone they don’t know, and that they should yell and do whatever it takes in order to attract attention if they are actually grabbed by a stranger.
Thankfully, a young boy knew that he should never go anywhere with a stranger, so when an adult he had not seen before approached him, he immediately sought help.
Close to the middle school student was the Fenton JV football team, who was about to start their afternoon practice.
The boy knew that the man who was waving at him and getting closer and closer was not approaching him with good intentions. The only thing he had to do was ask for help.
Although the boy was alone on the street, the football team entering the field for their practice caught his eye, so he yelled for help.
“This little boy came in screaming and crying ‘Help!’ and then, this dude came up and he looked kind of creepy,” one of the high school football players told WXYZ-TV.
The boy went up to the players and asked them not to let this guy take him, and they reassured him they wouldn’t.
“The kid went behind me and said ‘Please don’t let him take me’, I’m like ‘We won’t, bud’. So we all tell him ‘get out of here, go away’,” said another witness.
Indeed, the middle-aged man left, but before he did, the high school students made sure they collected enough clues to help the police track him down.
The boys took pictures of the man’s vehicle’s license plates, while they also took photos of the van he drove.
After that, they called 911 and gave them a good description of the man, along with the photos they took.
“You see what happens in a movie, so you take the experience from the movie and use it in real life,” said one of the high school students who helped the little boy.
Apparently, watching thrillers can help kids develop quick thinking, but the team spirit that sports inspire is also crucial.
In this case, the boys came together as a team and helped someone in need. However, they were humble enough to not accept the “hero” label.
As they said, they were only doing community service as they want to do every day.
