Some people are just cruel. It’s one thing to think judgemental thoughts about others in your own mind (fine you’re human).

And it’s another thing to discuss those judgemental comments to others in privacy.

But it’s an entirely different thing to lash out and make rude comments out loud to try and shame another human being that you know nothing about.

But that’s exactly what some passengers did on a flight from Salt Lake City to Minneapolis, MN.

Tom Scholzen of St. George Utah explained what he witnessed after an older woman was found to be sitting in the wrong seat on his flight.

“A few moments later, I see an older woman being escorted back where I was sitting. She ended up sitting right in front of me. As she got closer, I heard other passengers comment things like ‘Meth Head’, ‘Drug Addict’, ‘Tweeker’ etc,” Scholzen explained in a post on Facebook.

Scholzen noticed that the woman seemed fidgety and unable to control her motor skills. She was also visibly upset and looked confused.

He was holding several boarding passes as she struggled to open her purse.

That’s why she ended up in the wrong seat. It wasn’t long before she broke down in tears which broke Scholzen’s heart.

“My Heart dropped, and I immediately wanted to do something to help her. I started to unbuckle my seatbelt but had the thought that I didn’t want to scare her. After-all I am a stranger in a 6’5 frame. Thank heavens, there was an angel sitting across the aisle that had seen what I had,” Scholzen explained.

There was a woman who saw how upset the distraught woman was and offered her some tissue. She also spent the rest of the flight trying to comfort her.

She even helped her to organized her boarding passes and offered to help her get on her next flight.

“She could not have treated this lady who was having a rough day any sweeter! Thanks to her, I was holding back the tears all the way to Minnesota!” she said.

He never found out who the distraught woman was or what her health issues were.

He says that that information is none of his business whatsoever.

“What is my business is that I don’t like to see anyone hurting, even strangers. Regardless of what people look like on the outside, you never know what storm is raging inside,” Scholzen explained.

“Kindness goes a long way. If you know this woman, I hope you tell her how amazing she is! Instead of showing judgment, she showed compassion.”

He also wanted to thank the woman on the airplane who showed him that there are people out there who are willing to go out of their way to treat strangers with kindness and respect.
