Airline travel is enough to make anyone tense their shoulders up. Generally speaking, we’re not always our best selves when we’re trying to make it to our flight on time, or when we’re crammed into a plane. With that being the case, flight attendants and other professionals who work on planes are often under-appreciated for the emotional effort they put in to keep customers calm and satisfied.

Fortunately, this story is an inspiring example of one flight attendant going above and beyond the call of duty.

The story originated from Sharon Radcliffe, a registered nurse from Marquette, Michigan.

Radcliffe had been on Delta flight 2721 from Detroit to Nashville when she noticed something that caught her eye. There was a woman onboard the plane with Parkinson’s disease who needed extra love and care. As it turns out, there was a flight attendant onboard named Jeffery Jones who was more than willing to go above and beyond to make sure the woman was comfortable. The experience moved Radcliffe so much that she went home to write a Facebook post about it:

“Friends….this is Jeffery Jones. He was a Flight Leader on Delta Flight 2721 from Detroit to Nashville earlier today! Wow WHAT A GUY!

He noticed that a lady in coach class had Parkinson’s disease and without blinking an eye, he went to her and guided her – by the hand – to a free seat in first class! Like WHAT???? A colleague of mine who was also on the flight, helped him get her into first class.

For the ENTIRE flight I could see him checking in on her, patting her back. helping her get up, walking her (holding hands) up and down the aisle and generally “mother hen-ing” her.

I asked him if he needed help taking her to the bathroom; he told me ‘I GOT THIS’! He told me his grandmother had Parkinson’s and that he was all good, but that he very much appreciated my offer for help.

As I sat in my seat – I literally had tears in my eyes.

When I got off the plane, this is what I told Jeffrey. “I am a nurse, and I am so impressed with how you took care of that lady. My mother is a very young 70 years old and is a newly diagnosed Parkinson’s patient. I hope one day someone treats her as well as you treated that lady!”

PLEASE SHARE THIS FAR AND WIDE so that people and #DELTA can know they have a SUPERSTAR working for them!”

Her story went on to be shared more than 13,000 times on Facebook.

As it turns out, Radcliffe’s Facebook post did reach the top brass at Delta Airlines, who singled out Jeffery Jones for his kindness on the flight. For his part, Jones also wrote a post of appreciation on his own Facebook to explain how grateful he was to be recognized:

“Thank you to the wonderful nurse, passenger, and new friend Sharon for posting her perspective of this experience on Facebook. All of the positive comments, shares, feedback, etc have been an amazing and humbling experience for me.

And thank you to Delta for showcasing my story….which happens to be one of thousands upon thousands of the good deeds and hearts we as flight attendants perform and share every day in and out of the air.”

In all, this story reminds just how far a well-meaning act of kindness can go—particularly when it comes to air travel.

No matter how stressful preparing to fly (and actually flying) can be, it helps when we take a second out to think of others around us who are going through the same thing. Jones certainly did that on the flight that day and the entire world is taking notice.

Thank you, Jeffery, for your thoughtfulness—and thanks to Sharon for spreading the good deed!
