Justin Johnson and Abereon Brown, two of the players, recounted the heart-stopping moment.

Engrossed in their weekly flag football match, they were jolted by shouts alerting them of the car in the water.

The urgency was high, and the players’ camaraderie shone through as they sprinted towards the scene, driven by a collective sense of duty.

The sight that met them was harrowing.

A white car was rapidly filling with water and there was a man in the driver’s seat.

Yet, the players’ determination was unwavering.

As Abereon remarked to News 4 Jax, they reacted “as a brotherhood,” not thinking twice before diving into the water.

Their unity was evident as they rallied together, their sole focus on bringing the driver to safety.

The rescue, however, was filled with challenges.

The car’s doors and windows resisted their desperate attempts to be pried open.

Time was of the essence, and the situation seemed increasingly dire.

But hope arrived in the form of an ingenious solution: one of the rescuers managed to access the car’s interior through its trunk.

Yet, even as they made this breakthrough, another obstacle presented itself – the driver didn’t want to exit the car.

Justin told the news station:

“He didn’t wanna come out. He had a hold of that steering wheel so we were just sitting there fighting. I know he didn’t wanna let go he was telling us to let him go, but we just couldn’t let the at happen.”

The players’ empathy shone through in this moment.

As Justin reflected, the first thought that crossed his mind was of the driver’s family waiting for him at home.

The thought of leaving someone’s loved one trapped was unbearable.

Because of their teamwork, the group was finally able to pull the man from the car and to safety.

The aftermath of the rescue showed the players’ spirit of community and inclusivity.

When asked about a message for the rescued driver, one of the players warmly extended an invitation:

“We love you. Come out here, play with us. We’re a family. We don’t judge nobody. We’ll put you on our team.”
