“Grandma Elsie”, as she is known in the neighborhood, is in her 90s, but she hasn’t stopped mowing the lawn in her front yard.

At least she tries to do so every now and then so that her yard looks decent.

This is exactly what she was attempting to do a couple of weeks ago, when suddenly, her life alarm charm went off without her noticing.

Firefighters and rescuers were notified, and she soon saw people and vehicles arriving at her property.

“Two firemen came in an aid car, and then pretty soon there was a big fire truck with four more dudes,” she told King 5.

Elsie, who is a Monroe, Washington, resident, explained to the firefighters that it was a false alarm, so they could leave. But one of them just couldn’t. He felt the need to help the elderly woman who had been trying to mow the lawn all by herself.

“It was in rough form,” Huber said. “Mostly wood and almost no paint. [It] needed some love,” firefighter Brandon Huber said of the woman’s house.

So, he told her that he would be coming back to help her.

“I have four sons, so I told her we would come and take care of her lawn,” he explained.

Indeed, a few days later, the man came back with his sons and fixed up the elderly woman’s property. The whole process took about four days, but Huber then felt so happy to have helped someone in need.

Elsie couldn’t be more grateful for the man’s kind gesture. He was a stranger when he first arrived at her house, and they ended up being friends after he had finished working around her 1938 home.

“No one asked him to do it,” she said. “He has four kids and works 24-hour shifts, but he did it on the side and it’s amazing. It changed my life!”

Now, the once unkempt house with layers of old paint is a beautiful vintage white home with royal blue trim. All thanks to Huber’s selflessness.

Of course, the firefighter couldn’t have made it without the Fire 7 Foundation‘s help.

The Fire 7 Foundation is a non-profit organization “the mission of which is to support the community and fire service family during times of need through financial, educational and emotional means”.

The organization provided Huber with the tools he needed in order to restore the old house, and made the whole project possible.

Grandma Elsie is forever grateful to her, now, friend Huber, and she even finds him “kind of cute”. She admitted his handlebar mustache makes all the difference.

“At first, she said ‘What is that?'” Huber said. “‘That’s my mustache’, she goes ‘On purpose?'”

What a heartwarming act of kindness on the part of the firefighter, and what a sweet friendship the two of them have already developed.
