No matter what the circumstances, having children is difficult.

Having a baby is a promise of a new life in this world along with all its attendant responsibilities. Parents are expected to guide the way for their children, to provide a strong example and to love them unconditionally. Still, being a parent becomes much trickier when one’s own health is at risk. Although we all want to be around to see our children grow up, that is sometimes impossible.

That was the case for one father who was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The father in question was 27-year-old Nick Magnotti.

Magnotti was first diagnosed with appendix cancer when he was 24 years old. Although he was undergoing chemotherapy for several years, doctors told him that the treatment was becoming less and less effective as the cancer was spreading. Still, Magnotti and his wife Alyssa had just had their seven-month-old baby daughter, Austyn. Although his prognosis was terminal, Magnotti had made his peace with death. Still, he wanted to fulfill his duties as a father in the best way he could.

As a result, Magnotti decided to make a video for Austyn professing his love for her.

In the video, Magnotti describes how the cancer diagnosis has changed his perspective on life.

Although the doctors told him that he wouldn’t live much longer, Magnotti said that he preferred to live his life to the fullest while he was still here rather than continue with therapy. He also explained to Austyn that he had become much more faithful as a result of the diagnosis:

“I’m not scared of death. I feel blessed because I’m living every person’s dream. I get to spend every day with people that I love . . . the amount that I’ve gotten to know God, I just wish that everyone could get to experience what I feel. I just feel so blessed.”

In addition to explaining his faith, Magnotti also had many special words for Austyn specifically.

Although his biggest worry was that he wouldn’t be able to help raise his daughter, he said that he kept reminding himself that she would be ok:

“She is my little bundle of joy and I love her so much . . . I want her to know that her daddy wants to help people so that she will have the same heart . . . I’d love to be a part of raising her for every single day of her life but every day the Lord gives me with her is just the biggest blessing.”

Although Magnotti’s story is tragic, it is also brave and full of love.

Despite his own struggles, Magnotti’s biggest concern was to leave a legacy of love for his wife and child. Though he has since passed on, this video has continued to spread across the internet, inspiring millions of people. Needless to say, it seems like his mission to be a father and role model was fulfilled.

He lost the battle… but his daughter will know how much he loved her! ❤
