Baseball fans are die-hard fans. That is especially true for the fans of the Chicago Cubs. So, when they made it to the playoffs, people put on their blue and red gear and flocked to Wrigley Field.
A woman named Lauren Hinkston Hintzsche was sitting in the bleachers with her husband; they were anxious and excited to watch Game One of the NLCS Playoffs. Sitting next to them were two brothers, one was from San Diego the other from Chicago.
As Lauren was getting settled in her spot on the bleachers, an elderly couple sat next to them. She found out that they normally have season tickets behind the plate, but their playoff seats were with the crowd in the bleachers.
Throughout the game, Lauren learned more about the couple and witnessed something so compassionate; she had to share the story on Facebook.
“An older couple sat next to John and I in the bleachers. They have season tickets up behind the plate but after some conversation found out that this is where their playoff tickets were. Anyone who has sat in the bleachers knows that even on a good day, the bleachers can be tough to navigate. Sitting to the right of us were the guys that you see in the picture. As we were all chatting (because you know in the bleachers we are all one big happy family) we find out they are brothers. One lives in Chicago and the other lives in San Diego and flew in to hang out with his brother.”
She noticed that the man was struggling to walk up and through the narrow bleachers; the two gentlemen sitting next to her didn’t think twice about getting up from their seats to help him. Then, the wife of the older man whispered something to her that took hold of her heart.
“During the game, they would help the older gentleman stand when the crowd stood and the one guy stayed seated at times so this gentleman could see the game. During the game, this older couple held hands, he patted her knee and she helped him stand when there were exciting plays. About the 3rd inning, she leaned over to me and said ‘He’s going through chemo right now. We have done about everything else we can do and this is the last step.’ (Well, if you are not tearing up right now, I did enough of that for you.) At one point the older gentleman leaned over to his wife and said ‘I just love this!'”
Lauren couldn’t help but have tears well up in her eyes. She was so moved, by not only the senior couple but the two kind gentlemen as well.
“So, at the end of the game, these 2 awesome guys made sure the older gentleman made it up the stairs with no problems. I gave both of those guys big hugs and thanked them for their generosity! With all the crap going on in the world, I felt this was a story I had to tell.”
Lauren’s touching Facebook post below has been shared over 2,500 times, leaving people in awe of the emotional and kind moment. It’s stories like these that we need more of in the world.
