On Father’s Day, most people are spending quality time with their families, but there are plenty of others who simply can’t afford to take time off work and enjoy the moment with their nearest and dearest. 70 year old Don Rosario was one of those people.
This past Father’s Day, old Don was out and about as usual, pushing his popsicle cart around and hoping to make a little cash to help himself and his family get by.
When a group of kindhearted strangers spotted Don, they decided they wanted to do something special for him!
The story began when a man named Michaelangelo Mosqueda and his Gonzalez-Domínguez family were making the most of their Father’s Day together in the Southeast Side of Chicao when they noticed Don walking along.
The man looked tired and frail, but was clearly desperate for the money and simply had to work, trying to sell as many paletas (Mexican ice pops) as possible.
Michelangelo and his family knew that the old guy was at risk, not only from the incredibly hot weather that day, but also from potential thieves who could easily take advantage of Don and steal whatever cash he’d collected throughout the day.
“It can be very dangerous for paleteros or anyone out in the streets; we have heard of many that have been attacked by people just to get a couple of hundred dollars from them,” explained Karen Gonzalez, so she and the others decided to step right up to Don and offer to buy every single one of his paletas!
The old guy couldn’t believe his luck at crossing such a kindhearted family, and the Gonzalez-Dominguez clan was happy to take all the ice pops right out of Don’s truck and let him have the rest of the day off.
They filmed the whole scene, sharing the touching moment on Tik Tok as Don burst into tears, overwhelmed with happiness, but the story didn’t end there!
The family was so touched by Don’s story and so inspired after their video went viral online that they decided to set up a fundraiser page.
Initially, they set a target of $10,000, encouraging folks from around the world who had enjoyed the clip to chip in a few dollars here and there, hoping to change Don’s entire life.
Well, not only did they hit their target, they surpassed it in a big way! Within just a single day, the total tally had way exceeded the $10,000 mark, going all the way up to more than $60,000 at the latest count!
This is what humanity is all about – good people doing amazing things for others.
The family could easily have seen Don walking by and carried on with their day, ignoring him entirely or just buying a few paletas to help themselves cool down.
