When Leo’s mom was pregnant with him, the baby inside kicked for the first time as she was staring at Leonardo da Vinci’s painting in the Uffizi museum in Florence, Italy. His parents took it as a sign, and that’s why they decided to name him Leonardo.
Leo and Kate Winslet helped pay nursing home fees for the last living Titanic survivor
They did it so she wouldn’t have to sell her mementos. Millvina Dean was the Titanic’s youngest passenger and the last living Titanic survivor. She started living in a nursing home after she broke her hip.
Dean didn’t have the money to pay the fees, so she began selling Titanic memorabilia. A fund was launched, so Kate and Leo donated $30,000 to pay the nursing home fees.
He has never dated a woman older than 25
At age 47, Leo isn’t bothered with the age gap he shares with his girlfriends. He recently broke up with Camila Morrone, 22 years his junior. They were together for 4 years.
But this isn’t the first time DiCaprio has dated a much younger woman.
Leo has dated Nina Agdal, Kelly Rohrbach, Toni Garrn, Erin Heatherton, Blake Lively, Bar Refaeli, Gisele Bündchen, and many others. None of them being older than 25 at the time.
He won an award for being the “worst actor”
Leo has won several awards throughout his career, including a Razzie. It was in 1999 when he won the “Worst Screen Couple” award for playing the role of King Louis in the movie The Man in the Iron Mask.
Leo rescued his dogs from a frozen lake
The rescue happened on set while filming the movie, Don’t Look Up. DiCaprio saw one of his dogs in the lake, and when he jumped in to rescue, his other dog followed him into the water. Thankfully, all 3 were safe and sound.
Leo adopted a South African girl
DiCaprio adopted a South African girl from the country while filming the movie Blood Diamond. He didn’t bring her home to Los Angeles, but the actor sends checks to support the girl and the group home where she currently lives.
DiCaprio has been struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a mental health disorder where a person feels the need to repeat a certain action just to “cope” with their obsessions. Leo doesn’t want the condition to take over his life so he fights it.
He constantly fights the urge to walk through doorways several times. He even forces himself not to step on every chewing gum stain he sees when walking.
He bought an island in 2009 hoping to create an environment-friendly resort
DiCaprio paid a staggering$1.75 million, planning for the resort to be entirely self-sustaining with 36 villas that would rely on just natural energy. Unfortunately, his plan didn’t go very smoothly, but several construction delays later, building permits were finally issued.
Leo’s agent thought his foreign-sounding name would prevent him from landing a job
DiCaprio had difficulty finding an agent at the start of his career, and when he finally did, the agent wanted his name changed to Lenny Williams so he’d appeal more to the American audience.
Leo refused, resulting in him being jobless for a year and a half, even after going to 100 auditions. 2 years later, Leo found an agent that accepted his name, and soon his career took off.
