As parents, there are tons of special moments. That includes many firsts like a baby walking, talking, and cutting a tooth. Then as they get older, moms and dads get to enjoy many more wonderful events. One of those is the father-daughter dance.

What happens when your daughter’s school is holding an event like this but you’re having trouble getting there? For one dad, something unbelievable happened. The phrase “It takes a village to raise a child” usually refers to family members and friends. But in this case, it took an entire plane full of passengers.

As a frequent flyer, he travels often

Mike Good spends a lot of time flying for business. So, he’s seen all kinds of things. But while traveling from Nashville to his home in Charlotte, something amazing happened. That evening, his twin daughter’s school was hosting their first father-daughter dance.

Trying to get home

That morning, Mike tried his best to find an earlier flight to Charlotte. But that wasn’t an option. Of all days, most of the flights going into Charlotte had been canceled due to severe thunderstorms. So, the only thing he could do was take the flight he was already booked on.

They gave his seat away

American Airlines did their best to assist him. But in the chaos of trying to get him on an earlier flight his seat was given to another passenger. That meant when he boarded, the only available place was in the back of the plane. If you’ve ever flown, you know sitting in the rear takes forever to get off the plane.

He’s in the dog house

As a frequent flyer, Mike got to board before others. As he sat in the last row, he struck up a conversation with the flight attendant. He told her he was in big trouble at home because he was going to miss his fraternal twin daughters’ special dance.

There wasn’t any solution

He explained that at least the girls’ mom could take them even though that defeated the purpose of a “father-daughter” dance. Yet, that was his only option. There he was, scheduled to land at 7:00 p.m., the same time the dance started at Davidson Elementary school.

This isn’t real

Making matters worse, because of the storms, the pilot had to circle the airport several times. Once landed, a flight attendant came on the intercom to make an announcement. “There’s a dad in the last row trying to make his twin’s father-daughter dance and we’d really appreciate it if you’d let him off the plane first so he can get there.” What? Was this really happening?

Mike was shocked by everyone’s kindness

When the doors of the plane opened, not a single person stood up. They all waited in their seats to let Mike leave first. He grabbed his bags and rushed down the aisle but not without first thanking all the passengers. To the pleasant surprise of his daughters and wife, he made it to the dance at 7:50.

While Mike didn’t have the entire evening with his girls, it didn’t matter. He showed up. He was even more shocked when he learned through a text message that his story had gone viral. Come to find out, the experience was shared by one of those kind passengers…and the retweeting began.
