Who doesn’t know the ‘King of Rock n’ Roll’?
Elvis Presley was widely popular during his time.
He recorded hit after hit with popular songs like “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” “Suspicious Minds,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Blue Suede Shoes.” His excellent work was proven with the number of awards he got from various award-giving bodies, including the Grammy’s. He’s also listed in the Music City Walk of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and earned his star in Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
He was a great actor, too.
Most of his songs were tied to the movies he worked with. His notable performances were “Blue Hawaii,” “King Creole,” “Viva Las Vegas,” and “Change of Habit”, which are often characterized as light and comedic romance movies.
And even when he sings covers, Elvis owns the song with his rendition.
This video of Elvis singing a Willie Nelson hit will definitely pull some heartstrings. Like a true King, his emotions dominated the cover. But first, a little backstory on why this cover is so haunting, you can feel Elvis’ pain.
Anything that Elvis does is always publicized, including his relationships.
He was married to only one woman, and that is Priscilla.
Priscilla and Elvis met in Germany, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. They worked out their relationship long-distance until Elvis convinced Priscilla’s father to take her to the United States.
After eight years of being together, they decided to get married.
The wedding was widely publicized. It was in Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas, with only a few guests and lasted only for eight minutes. You can see here how happy they were on that day.
But their relationship did not last long. They divorced on October 9, 1973.
Both had their fair share of affairs, especially as Elvis was frequently away filming. Their marriage went south, and they finally decided to end it. They did end up as friends, and you can see that they were holding hands when they exited the courthouse.
A few weeks after their divorce, he recorded a cover of Willie Nelson’s ‘Always on My Mind.’
The pain he felt at that moment is apparent in this video.
What was once a cheerful, vibrant young man is now engulfed in regret and sadness. The song says a lot about how his relationship with Priscilla went and how he feels about it after their divorce.
The video also shows the beautiful memories he had with Priscilla.
Aside from wedding clips, you can see the times they were out together and just having a great time.
There are also family vacation clips with their daughter Lisa Marie Presley.
This gives you a better understanding of his pain with this song cover.
One thing’s for sure, the King of Rock n Roll gave us the best music during this time. His hits will always be a classic, and he’s still a household name when it comes to the best in the industry.
As for this video? It proved to us how his voice is always so timeless, his emotions so raw.
