Today’s story took place about seven years ago yet it’s a tale still worth telling and sharing. It depicts a simple act of generosity that will undoubtedly make your day brighter.

A 75-year-old woman was aided by four young boys who prevented her from going to jail due to an absurd rule.

This is the story of Gerry Suttle, a 75-year-old widow living alone in Riesel, Texas.

She was given the warning to appear before a court because the grass in her yard was over 18 inches tall. Gerry claimed that she was unaware of the state’s laws and that she had not received any notice.

A warrant for her arrest was issued as a result of her breaking the law and failing to reply to the notification she never got. Despite not knowing Gerry directly, four young boys who learned of her plight in a news broadcast felt compelled to help the elderly woman.

They thought it was all absurd.

“We haven’t met her but she’s 75 years old and she needs some help mowing,” One of the boys, Blaine Reynolds, remarked. “That’s the least we could do.”

The four lads were aware of how much assistance Gerry required from them. The guys said that preventing Gerry from going to jail is more important to them than cutting the overgrown grasses.

It all comes down to how respectful they were to the elderly.

In the sweltering summer heat, the four young boys sheared and cut Gerry’s overgrown grass. The youngsters are pushing mowers with all their might in the open sun despite the temperature being over 90 degrees.

Gerry’s neighbors are intrigued by the four boys’ heroic effort and determination.

This inspired them to help as well!

When Gerry’s neighbors saw what the young boys were up to, they immediately got on their lawnmowers and started assisting the heroic brothers in their effort.

Within just two hours of hard collective work, they had managed to turn the overgrown lawn into a lovely one with everyone helping one other. Unaware of the fuss, Gerry went outside to see what was going on in her yard.

She was astonished by what she saw.

Her neighbors and four lads she doesn’t know worked hard for her without her asking for any assistance, and she couldn’t believe what she was witnessing with her own eyes.

“I cannot believe this! I am very seldom without words but this is one time. You mark it down in history that I didn’t have something to say,” Gerry exclaimed.

She was incredibly speechless.

“It’s summer day, we don’t have season passes yet to Warren Falls. What else could we do? Just go out and help some people,” another one of the nice boys explained.

“I really wouldn’t want her coming out here doing it or paying a bunch of money when we could have just done it for free,” he continued.

Good people still definitely exist.

How the kids understood the urgency of Gerry’s circumstance is what makes this story more heartwarming. It’s commendable that at such a young age, kids already understand the value of lending a helping hand to those in need and being nice to others.

May we all take these boys as our inspirations to do the same for others.
