Getting old is a blessing, but it also comes with difficulties.
As we grow older, we notice certain things we can’t do as well as we used to do when we were younger.
Some of these are related to physical activities such as running, jumping, or standing for long periods.
It is a challenge but also something we cannot stop. We may be growing wiser, but we are also getting weaker as we age.
Aging is not usually a big deal because we tend to lessen our physical activities anyway, but there can be times when this becomes a burden.
One day, 23-year-old Cesar Larios, a student from the Art Institute of Florida, visited a 10-floor assisted living facility to move belongings as part of his job at College HUNKS Moving and Hauling Services.
It was moving day and taking the elevator is quite convenient when trying to bring things from one place to another.
Unfortunately, the lift was not working as it should be that day and this young man was trapped inside the elevator when it got stuck.
It was a mishap, but it happened sometimes, and you just got to go with the flow.
Inside the elevator, another person was trapped with Cesar.
Rita Jung, 79 years old, is a resident at the facility, and she was the unlucky person who got stuck in the malfunctioning lift where Cesar and other people were also stuck in.
The old woman knew it would be difficult for her since she could not stand for a long time and immediately voiced out her worry.
It looked like the elevator repair would take quite some time, and Rita feared she would feel very uncomfortable or even in pain if she stood there for more than a few minutes.
The elevator lacked chairs, of course, and Rita only had a walker to assist her.
If Rita stood for longer, her knees would surely ache.
While waiting for the maintenance guys to make the lift work, the old woman knew she had no choice but to endure. What she did not know was that the person who was there in the elevator with her knew exactly what she needed at the moment.
Young and strong, Cesar had no problem with standing there and waiting for the elevator to get a move on.
But, looking at the elderly lady he was with, the man worried she might feel discomfort if she did not have something to sit on while waiting for the doors to open.
Without much thinking, Cesar went down on his knees and did what he knew was the right thing.
The young man offered to be Rita’s human bench, and the elderly woman felt so grateful for the guy’s kindness.
She took the offer and sat on Cesar’s back to regain her comfort and keep her knees from aching.
The elevator took 30 minutes to be repaired, and all this time, Cesar maintained his position and kept being Rita’s human bench.
The story broke out when Cesar’s boss shared the incident with Good News Network.
Olga Lourdes Ruiz Velasco, Cesar’s mom, is very proud of her son’s kind heart.
People online are commending him for his generous heart and saying that chivalry and kindness are definitely still alive.
