In the busy, rustling crowds of people in the subway, it’s easy to get lost in your head and not pay attention to others around you.
It’s a sight commonly seen amongst commuters. You’ll see people wearing headphones, reading a book, scrolling through their phone, or reading signs to determine which stop to get off at. All in their own little world, just trying to get from Point A to Point B.
However, sometimes being a little aware of your surroundings can help give someone a lesson of a lifetime, just like in the case below.
In a tender candid moment, an older gentleman taught a young man how to properly tie his tie.
Initially, the young man was having trouble putting on his tie. One woman wearing a red coat (pictured below) happen to notice.
She approached the young man and asked him, “Do you know how to tie it properly?”
He answered, “No ma’am.”
The woman, without a lace of judgment in her voice, tapped her husband and told him, “Come to this side [where the young man was] and teach this young man how to tie his tie.”
Just as the woman had no judgment in her voice, the man moved without hesitation to help out this young man. The bystander who captured the touching moment described the man’s response as a “reflex.”
In a touching moment of one generation reaching out to another, the older gentleman gave the boy a clear step-by-step tutorial on how to tie his tie.
But he wasn’t going to just leave it at that.
The elder man made sure that the young man had learned what he was just taught, so he waited and watched as the boy repeated the steps the man had instructed.
In the end, the young gentleman received a timeless lesson that he may go on to teach another boy one today. And it was all thanks to this patient couple who didn’t hesitate to help out someone they saw struggling.
The circle of kindness goes ’round and ’round.
