When most people think of a high school marching band, they probably don’t think of world-class competitors. But when it comes to the Bluecoats? That’s exactly what they are.
Belonging to Drum Corps International, the Bluecoats are a drumline with some serious talent.
A drumline is an absolutely crucial part of a band. They provide the rhythm and the beat to whatever song is playing. In fact, sometimes they’re the only instruments involved at all—as in the case for the Bluecoats.
The practice that goes into their rehearsals before a competition is intense, fierce, and seriously hard work. Every single person in the drumline needs to know their part to a “T”. One wrong hit of the drum and it throws off the entire group.
In addition to keeping perfect timing, the drumline is expected to shuffle, move, and toss their drumsticks in a completely synced rhythm.
A few years ago, while the Bluecoats were practicing and warming up for the DCI finals in Indianapolis, IN, a video was filmed of their performance. Just a few moments into the video and you can see just how much talent these students possess.
Back in 2013, each member lines up in the video, taking their place for the performance. The massive power of the drums is practically palpable through the screen as you watch it.
The fact that this performance is simply a warm-up gives viewers an indication of just how professional these drummers are.
The drummers are deeply involved in the drumming and routine. Their intense facial expressions even get involved! And even though it’s clear that they’re having fun, it’s also obvious that the routine takes massive and sustained focus.
Of course, viewers of the video, once it was uploaded, couldn’t believe what they had just watched. The performance was so well done and so perfectly crafted, it’s hard to believe how young the drummers are—in high school! Here are some of the comments left on the video that has been viewed over 8.7 million times.
“Those tenors came in together without a single dot going in or out of the line. And it was clean!” said one YouTuber.
“WOW IT’S AWESOME … I’ve never seen something so perfect and so co-ordinated … It deserves a little hand up … ALL BECAUSE IT’S INCREDIBLE,” commented another.
“Well my head exploded and then imploded then just regular ploded,” said another viewer.
It’s clear that with nearly 9 million views, people are absolutely floored by their impeccable performance.
