Selling items online comes with some risks. While it can be extremely convenient, you just might run into some, um, weirdos.
All of us have clothes that we no longer need or want, particularly as we get older and our tastes change along with our bodies. Things just don’t fit how they used to.
But online marketplaces such as eBay and Facebook and other apps allow users to post items from their phones with ease. With just a few clicks, you’re on your way to making some cash.
For some users, particularly women, selling items online can get a little weird. There are some real creepers out there just waiting for opportunities to chat up an unsuspecting woman. At first, their questions might seem valid and even reasonable.
However, as the interaction progresses, it becomes pretty apparent that their inquiries might not be as innocent as you once thought.
One woman in the Reddit group called, “insanepeoplefacebook,” shared her experience with posting her shoes online with the hopes of selling them.
Though her name isn’t revealed, she goes by Bradders33 on the site. Using screenshots, she shared how she came up with a clever way to outsmart the perverts who showed interest in her shoes with the hopes of fulfilling feet and leg fetishes.
I told ya it can get weird.
She wrote that it began as, what she first perceived to be innocent questions. In an interview with Bored Panda, she shared how it all started.
“I first encountered guys messaging me for photos of me wearing the shoes I was selling when I used eBay. I did oblige in the beginning as I didn’t realize it wasn’t innocent, but as soon as I did send a photo of them being worn, the requests would get bolder, asking me to wear stockings, asking if the shoes smelled, etc.”
She continued by sharing the moment that she realized their inquiries weren’t about the shoes at all.
“I soon realized what was happening and stopped sending extra pics. When I started selling on Marketplace I got more messages. Always the same type of message, they are wanting to buy them for a gift for their girlfriend. I mean, who buys second-hand shoes for their girlfriend?”
That’s when she got the brilliant idea to get her dog in on her ads. Anytime she was asked for photos of her shoes with her in them she sent photos of her dog, Murphy, wearing them instead.
It has put a complete halt on further interactions between her and the “potential buyer.”
“It shuts those sales down straight away. The guys never reply, funnily enough,” she said.
She also wanted to clarify that she wasn’t shaming those who have these fetishes. She simply wanted to shed light on an issue that women who just want to sell their items face every day.
“I’m not kink-shaming, but if you don’t want to be involved in their kink, then don’t send the photos they request.”
Luckily, Murphy was a willing participant in her comebacks. She said he had no issues wearing heels. Ironically, her female dog was not into it.
“My dog is always happy to help. He wouldn’t stand there and let me take a quick snap if he didn’t want to. My other dog certainly wouldn’t let me, she’s less laid back and knows her own mind.”
What a great way to handle those inconsiderate users! Use caution when selling items online, ladies!
