Dogs are famous for their loyalty.
When someone they love is in danger, they’ll go the extra mile to protect them and ensure they’re okay.
Pups are amazing for so many reasons, but their heroism is certainly up there. Dogs truly love their people, and they’ll do anything to keep them safe.
Since the beginning of the age of technology, dog owners have been documenting the times when their pooches saved their lives and sharing them for us all to see.
We’ve seen dogs pull their owners back from a busy road, and even get help when a person has fallen ill – but never before have we come across a video quite like today’s.
A YouTube channel simply named Drew posted the video back in 2016, and since then it has received over 3.5 million views.
Titled, “Deadly Brown Snake,” the short clip begins with some footage from what appears to be a home security camera, showing a man relaxing in his backyard.
As he scrolls on his phone, the man is completely unaware that a snake is heading right for him.
As the snake whips around the man’s ankles, his devoted pooch springs into action. The dog has been watching the snake curiously since it first came close, and even runs to the door to prevent it from going inside.
As the snake heads straight towards the man, the brave pup runs right up to her dad and begins barking frantically.
At that moment, thanks to his dog’s warning, the man sees the snake and leaps up in surprise.
It only takes him a second to get his bearings before he takes hold of his dog’s collar and guides her away from the snake, keeping her safe as she did for him.
It’s incredibly unsettling to think about how the video would have ended if the man had been outside without his dog.
She’s a true hero!
The snake is a brown snake – a highly venomous species that lives in Australia.
According to Australia’s Billabong Sanctuary, “Brown snake is the common name for Pseudonaja, a genus of highly venomous snakes that includes the Eastern brown snake, considered the second most venomous land snake in the world.”
There are nine species of Pseudonaja, and they’re so dangerous, that even the juveniles can administer deadly bites.
With the knowledge of how dangerous this species of snake is, it’s terrifying to think that this man was sitting so close to one.
Who knows what would have happened if his dog hadn’t spotted the snake?
“Had a really close encounter with a brown snake today. After watching the footage on the security cam it looks like our dog stopped it going inside and if it wasn’t for her I would have probably kept looking at my phone,” the man said in the caption of his video. “I think we were both a bit lucky today.”
This pup is very intelligent, and she knew just how to keep her dad safe. What a little hero.
