The holiday season is looking a bit different this year. While we are all trying to keep our family and friends safe, that means a lot of people aren’t celebrating together this year.
Even if our normal festivities aren’t how they used to be, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t magic in it all.
This is the time to tweak our old traditions to make sure our families stay healthy and joyful this holiday season. In some cases maybe even lend a (sanitized) hand in any way we can for our friends and family during these difficult times. Because the truth is, we’re all in this together.
A German pharmaceutical company, DocMorris, created a beautiful short film that illustrated how important the little things are, especially now.
The commercial is unique and keeps you guessing what could be next? This little film is certainly worth 2 minutes and 40 seconds of your time and might be the perfect thing to send in your family group chat.
The film follows the life of an old man and how he carries out his day to day leading up to Christmas.
It begins with him waking up and looking at the collection of family photos on his wall. You get the idea that the old man is very lonely and he deeply misses his family.
While he was appreciating all of the photos hung on the wall, one stood out to him.
So the old man took the photo off the wall and as he looked out his window he saw his neighbors loading a Christmas tree into the house.That very moment sparked something in the old man and he immediately went to the garage.
The old man found a weight buried under all kinds of things and slowly lugged it outside.
At this point, I was wondering, what in the world is this old man doing? I had to see what could be the point of all of this.
Every day the man woke up bright and early, struggling to lift this weight.
His neighbors were extremely worried about him and honestly so was I… He could barely lift it and even dropped it on the floor because of how heavy it was. But that didn’t stop the old man from waking up every day trying to lift the weight.
He was determined and became stronger and stronger until he finally could lift the weight over his head!
When it was time for his family’s Christmas party, he arrived at his daughter’s house looking all spiffy with a gift in hand.
The old man gave the gift to his granddaughter and the little girl unwrapped it.
The gift was a star to put on the tree! That’s when he held up his grandaughter to place the special star on top of the Christmas tree!
This heartfelt moment tied every ribbon of the story together and left my eyes a little teared up.
The film was so powerful without saying a word.
Our elders must be feeling all kinds of lonely during this holiday season.
It’s hard to live happily when you’re in fear of contracting a life-threatening virus from friends and family. Even though a lot of us won’t be able to invite our grandparents over to our small Christmas gatherings, it’s important to reach out.
Maybe even get a little Facetime holiday date going.
