Whether as part of a scavenger hunt or purely accidental, some people find the coolest things. Depending on the search location, items show up on land or in water. Well, for one diver, what started as an ordinary day soon turned into an amazing discovery with a happy ending.
People lose things in the water all the time. While boating, jet skiing, swimming, or just horsing around, it’s not uncommon for jewelry, clothing, shoes, and even electronics to accidentally go overboard. For individuals who love to dive, this presents an exciting opportunity.
Meet Dallas Rowley
This young man is one of those people who love to dive in anticipation of finding some kind of treasure. Although he hits a variety of spots, one of his favorites is the Salt River in Arizona. Over the years, he’s found some pretty awesome things.
It’s nearly impossible to connect people to the things he finds. For instance, on a recent outing, he came across some jewelry and sunglasses. Usually, the sunken treasures are from tourists, which makes it even more difficult to find the rightful owner.
An unbelievable discovery
While at the Salt River, Dallas was doing his thing…diving and searching. As he scoured around, he couldn’t believe his eyes. There in the water, he found an iPhone X. Surely after being submerged it didn’t work. Or did it?
Trying to salvage it
Dallas took the iPhone X home and over the next three days, he did everything he could think of to get it to work. That included using a blow dryer to reach all the intricate components inside and placing it in a container of rice. Then comes the moment of truth.
It powered on
At that point, Dallas was ecstatic. He couldn’t believe the iPhone still worked but it did. Now, he wanted to do some investigative work to see if he could find out who it belonged to. Lo and behold, he succeeded at that, too.
The phone’s owner
Going through information found on the phone, he determined it belonged to a woman named Allysa King. That led to more research to find out where she lived. After a short time, he was able to trace the woman to Florida.
Just as Dallas suspected, Allysa had dropped her iPhone in the water while vacationing in Arizona. As much as she and others tried their best to reach the phone, it was impossible. It had sunk too far to the bottom of the lake.
Their first conversation
Next, Dallas found Allysa’s phone number and called her. When he explained the reason for the call, she was stunned. She had chalked up the experience as a forever loss. That’s when she told Dallas that she’d carried her iPhone with her while tubing, which was a big mistake.
A huge surprise
But it was what Allysa shared next that touched Dallas. Come to find out, this woman was the mother of a small child. And virtually all of her daughter’s baby pictures were on that phone. So, finding that she could retrieve them meant the world to her. It wasn’t long after their conversation that Allysa had her phone back in her hands.
Yes, Allysa has her phone back but it’s the photos that made this such a special reunion. Interestingly, some people work as search and recovery divers who look for lost possessions and then reunite them with their owners. But for Dallas, it was nothing more than a favorite pastime that brought so much joy to this woman.
