In October of 2020, Stephanie was at an Ibiza Airport getting ready to board a flight back to London Stansted Airport. She was with her three kids.
Traveling in itself can be stressful but the mother of three found herself in more trouble when the airline told her that her bag was too big to be carried on board.
Ryanair then said that she only pay for the oversized luggage fee using a card. There was no way Stephanie could pay since she only had cash.
A co-passenger was able to film the ordeal and you can see a young man checking his phone by the boarding gate.
Stephanie was stressing out as it was. Her two young sons running around wasn’t helping with one of her kids chasing after his little brother.
The young man went over and reassured her saying, “It’s alright, it’s alright. Don’t worry, I’ll pay for you.”
The anonymous man took care of the £50 ($65) bill for Stephanie!
Stephanie looks at the stranger saying, “thank you so much,” with so much gratitude for his kindness. She began to cry with the man soothing her the whole time.
The stranger hands over his card to the ground staff to settle the fee as one of Stephanie’s kids tries to calm his brother.
Twitter user @CoolCalmPoch posted the footage on social media saying,
“Well done to this young hero for paying the ridiculous Ryanair luggage charges for a distressed mother traveling with 3 kids (who wasn’t getting any leniency from ground staff). The flight from Ibiza to Stansted was half empty, not sure what difference a few cms would make,” he wrote.
Airport staff initially told Stephanie that there was no need to check in her bag. Then she was later informed that she had to pay a fee since it was a large bag.
“The plane was half-full so I couldn’t understand why they couldn’t take my bag or put it in the hold,” she said.
That trip from Ibiza to the UK could have gone the wrong way had it not been for the kind young man.
“Plus with everything that’s going on, you can see on the video that I’m quite anxious,” she recalled. “This kind man turned around and said he would pay for me – it was an amazing act of kindness that he really didn’t need to do. He literally came out of nowhere, it was a crazy experience.”
Once they boarded, she saw the man sitting a few rows behind them. Covid restrictions meant she couldn’t go over and give him a thank you hug but she really wanted to.
Stephanie was able to contact the passenger who filmed the entire incident. But in terms of finding the kind stranger, she had this to say,
“Apparently, he wants to remain anonymous. I just want to have a chat with him because I don’t think he realizes how nice a gesture it was and how much it meant to me,” Stephanie said.
Who knows if Stephanie did meet the kind young man since this happened a year ago. We just know that this selfless stranger made Stephanie’s trip a little easier.
