A person typically learns as a child to follow the rules and treat others with kindness. Sadly though, there are still plenty of adults who choose to go against these lessons and demonstrate “not so nice” behavior.
One Ohio woman discovered just how nasty some people can be. For her, it came in the form of a letter that was placed on her windshield. The message was so mean in fact, that it has internet users riled up too.
Ashley Brady knows what it’s like to struggle with mobility.
The Miamisburg resident had been in an accident the year before, which resulted in her losing a leg, and having to use a prosthetic limb. As one might expect, walking wasn’t always so easy.
Ashley lived in an apartment complex so faced many hurdles while relearning to walk. Ice and snow made things extra tricky, not to mention, dangerous too. She shared in a news interview that she’d had falls in the parking lot.
The apartment complex created a handicapped parking spot for Ashley next to her building.
One day, Ashley drove up and found another car parked in the space. The vehicle didn’t have a handicap license plate or tag, so she decided to leave the person a note expressing her frustration.
When Ashley returned to her car there was a note under her own windshield wiper.
It said:
“Hey handicap, 1st never place your hands on my car again! 2nd, honey you ain’t the only one with “struggles” – you want pity go to a one leg support group! You messed with the wrong one! I don’t care about what your note said shove it, but you touch my car again I will file a report, I am not playing!”
The female neighbor continued:
“I let the office know the cry baby one leg touches my property I will cause trouble. So go cry your struggles to someone who cares cause I’m walking away with both mine!!! (expletive)”
Understandably, Ashley was shocked as she read through the cold-hearted letter.
She told WKEF:
“I read it probably like 5 times over and over. Because my brain just couldn’t even process the level of mean that it was.”
Instead of sitting silent, they decided to do something about it.
Ashley’s sisters, who were just as taken aback by the nasty letter, posted it on Facebook for the world to see. It quickly went viral with many people showing their support.
In her interview with WKEF, Ashley said:
“I got a lot of feedback online from a lot of other amputees who have been in similar situations. You’re not just going to get what you want by bullying. She told me to cry to someone who cares, so I went to the internet and it turns out a lot of people care.”
Ashley filed a grievance with local police and informed the apartment complex as well. While we don’t know the final outcome – she certainly had people online in her corner!
One person left the following comment for the neighbor:
“Lady, you may be walking away with both legs, but you are missing a heart, soul, and most obviously a brain.”
Someone else said:
“Honestly I will never fully comprehend the mindset of people who actually [do] stuff like that. It seems just so inhuman.”
