Hard work and a positive disposition paid off for this cashier in Independence, Missouri.
Ryheem Lumpkins works as a cashier for Pizza Ranch in Independence, and it’s only been a month since he started, but he already made quite an impression on their customers.
One particular customer noticed all the positive attributes Ryheem had.
Robert Samay saw something special in Ryheem.
He noticed how he worked harder than anyone else, sweeping the floor and wiping the buffet bar whenever there was no customer by the counter.
Aside from his work ethic, Robert also noticed how Ryheem always had a smile on his face, greeting every customer.
Tipping someone behind the cash register is not typical, but Robert wanted to.
He wanted to show gratitude towards Ryheem for everything he did and thought he deserved a tip.
However, he only had $5 in his pocket but gave it to him anyway.
The young man accepted the tip with a smile, knowing this doesn’t often happen to cashiers.
But Robert wanted to give him more, so he returned to give Ryheem a tip he deserved.
He returned to Pizza Ranch with a friend and a bunch of bills in her hands.
They greeted Ryheem to tell him why they were there that day.
“I appreciate your hard work, your good smile, your good attitude. We don’t get that nowadays, especially with young kids,” Robert told Ryheem.
They laid $50 bills on his lap one by one until it reached $2,500!
Ryheem couldn’t believe what was happening; he could only cry happy tears.
And it wasn’t only because of the money he received, but the gesture that Robert showed towards him.
“To be honest, I was speechless. I never had [anything] in my life that had happened to me like that before,” he told KCTV5 News. “That right there showed me that there [are] more people in the world that really [care] for me.”
You see, what makes Ryheem extra special is that his hands and arms are different.
They never fully developed as most people have, but this didn’t stop him from being the best in his job.
He could not hold, grab, or move things as easily as we do, but it never bothered him.
Ryheem never saw this as a disability or a condition, but rather a gift God gave him so he would use it well.
Ryheem dreams of being a motivational speaker for kids like him and is already setting a great example.
If he ever had a message for any child with a disability, he said they should not hide it and never let the negative words people say against them get into their heads.
He also reminded them there’s more positive in this world, just like how Robert appreciated his service.
Asked if he had any plans for the money, he only had one thing in mind.
Ryheem wanted to save the money and use it as his first deposit on his “first car savings” until he had the right amount for something he liked.
That’s why he got this job in the first place, and it looks like it’s started to serve its purpose.
