A police officer’s duty is very challenging and, most of the time, life-threatening.

Imagine, they are the front liners when it comes to catching criminals. They take the bullet so the regular person doesn’t have to. They have to chase that thief that stole from us. They keep our children safe. And they do everything in their power to keep us safe from harm.

That is what one deputy officer from the Adams Country Sheriff’s Office in Colorado did.

The Sheriff’s Office had just received a call from the Colorado State Patrol for emergent assistance.

“Just after 11 PM last night we received a request from Colorado State Patrol for emergent assistance for a wrong-way driver on I-70 at mile marker 328. The driver was headed westbound in the eastbound lanes at highway speeds and could potentially cause a collision,” the Adams Country Sheriff’s Office wrote on their Facebook page.

This was a major highway and if they don’t stop the car, a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, many cars will get hit and who knows how many lives this car may also take.

It was a good decision to stop the traffic at mile marker 310 to help them take care of the situation while keeping the drivers and passengers safer.

The CSP and Arapahoe County deputies had failed to stop this jeep and informed the Adams County deputies so they could stop it. Well, one Adams County deputy decided to put himself in between danger and safety.

“One deputy bravely put himself and his vehicle in harm’s way ahead of the stopped vehicles to intercept the incoming vehicle and allowed himself to be struck so the other vehicles would not be hit,” the Adams Country Sheriff’s Office wrote.

And when the jeep, driven by an 83-year-old man from Colorado Springs, arrived, it hit the deputy’s patrol and pushed both vehicles up to 14o feet.

A 2007 Volvo semi-truck and its 40-year-old driver stopped the impact of the two vehicles.

According to reports, alcohol and drugs were not part of this accident but they did issue the jeep’s driver with citations for careless driving and driving the wrong way. He also suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Thankfully, the deputy only suffered minor injuries and was already brought to the hospital for treatment. The truck driver, miraculously, did not sustain any injuries in the crash.

This deputy’s selfless act helped them save many more lives that night. And so many more people were grateful for their bravery.

“Incredible job by all the deputies involved to bring this dangerous situation to a safe close. Thank you!” EvenKehl exclaimed.

“Amazing! This deputy no doubt put his life on the line to protect others. What an amazing act of bravery!” Lori Senske added.

“Oh my goodness. This is what I am talking about. We hear so much about what officers do that is wrong, BUT THIS.. RIGHT HERE needs to be shared. The brave and the good and the selfless thoughts to save others. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Prayers for him… and his fellow officers,” Sheila Walter wrote on their Facebook post.

Be sure to thank these selfless men today!
