With so many social media sites, it’s easy to find cool videos. Some of the favorites are pet owners being reunited with lost animals, siblings coming together after not seeing each other for decades, and reunions that involve people who’ve returned home after being deployed.
For the latter category, one reunion has captured hearts around the world.
33 million and counting
That represents the number of people who’ve viewed one particular deployment reunion video. Not only is it touching but also creative. A man named Joshua had been away from home for five months. Upon his return, he wanted to surprise his wife in the best way possible.

Also serving people
While Joshua serves the country as a Family Physician for the Texas Army National Guard, his wife, Alice, takes care of people within the community where they live. In Athens, Texas, she’s a pediatrician at Lakeland Medical Associates. Obviously, they both care a lot about people.
Settling in
Recently, the couple moved to Athens where Alice took a new position. While she’d made some friends, she was still in the process of getting settled at home and on the job.
An unsuspecting phone call
Joshua called his wife, pretending he was still overseas. In reality, he was making a 40-hour journey home. After a long trip, he arrived on October 12. He ended the call telling her he was tired and needed to go to bed.
So sneaky
What Alice didn’t know was her husband wasn’t just back in Athens but at the hospital where she worked. Now, he had to pull off his plan of acting like a patient. Once the video of the reunion was posted online, people around the globe went wild.
Waiting for a consultation
In the video, you see Joshua in a patient room waiting to have a consultation with the doctor…Alice. He’s recording the entire thing. He’s super excited to see his wife. After all, she did so much while he was away.
The accomplice
For Joshua’s plan to work, he needed a little bit of help. So, one of the nurses eagerly volunteered. The video begins with the two of them in the same room, discussing what’s about to happen.
A knock on the door
As is customary when visiting a doctor, someone first knocks on the door before entering the room. With his hands in his lap, you can feel the tension and excitement of the moment. Then, the door begins to open…but it’s not Alice.
Another helper
The male nurse rushes to the door where a second nurse stands. They quickly confirm the plan and the door shuts. After a few seconds, the door again opens and in walks Alice. But for a couple of seconds, it doesn’t register that the patient is her husband.
Then it hits
As soon as she realizes it’s Joshua, she becomes emotional. She walks over to him and melts into his arms. She can’t embrace him tightly enough.
A beautiful reunion
After Joshua says, “It’s good to see you,” he instinctively picks her up. They hold each other for the longest time. When they finally separate, you can see Alice wiping tears from her eyes.
