The coronavirus pandemic is making us rethink the way we live and operate our lives.
Leaving the house, going to the grocery store, and receiving packages can become a major ordeal.
It often involves excessive hand washing, wiping down surfaces, and sanitizing things.
The coronavirus is said to be more hazardous for people with compromised immune systems.
And lots of people are going out of their way to protect these people.
For one, people are staying home to stop the spread of infections.
But there are also others going above and beyond to help protect the vulnerable.
Including FedEx worker Justin Bradshaw who works a route in Boca Raton, Florida.
He’s an essential worker who is already putting his life on the line to make sure our country can still function.
Yet, he still went out of his way to sanitize packages he was dropping off when he learned that one of his customers was someone with a compromised immune system.
“I couldn’t believe somebody, a total stranger, took the time to make sure we were safe,” Carrie Blasi said in a Tweet.
Blasi’s 11-year-old daughter Emma has type 1 diabetes, which makes her vulnerable to catching coronavirus and experiencing complications.
“It is crazy the amount of measures we have to go through to stay safe,” Bradshaw told WPTV.
So, Blasi put a sign on her door advising people of this and asking delivery people to leave packages on the doorstep.
“STOP,” the sign reads. “Someone in this house has an autoimmune disorder!”
“Those who are immunocompromised are more likely to contract coronavirus (COVID-19) and experience life-threatening complications. Due to the widespread outbreak of this virus we are using an abundance of caution through practicing self-isolation and social distancing. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Please leave packages/deliveries on the doorstop.”
When Blasi came outside one day to collect her packages she noticed the act of kindness right away.
There was a note written on the package.
It read: “I sanitized your box once I’ve seen the note on door, stay safe =).”
When Blasi went to watch her security camera, she witnessed Bradshaw go back to his truck and wipe the package down with sanitizer.
Blasi was so touched that she shared the video with WPTV in hopes that she could personally thank the FedEx delivery person.
“We thank you so much for doing something you weren’t even asked to do,” Blasi told Bradshaw when they finally got to speak via Zoom.
“The first thing I though about was Nova, cause she was a micro preemie,” Bradshaw told Blasi referring to his daughter who was born at 28 weeks weighing just 1 pound and 11 ounces. “She’s very high risk. I saw the sign and I just knew.”
Bradshaw said his act of care was something that he hopes everyone would do.
“I feel like we should all do something to better the situation right now,” said Bradshaw.
Blasi said she was glad she was able to finally express her gratitude to Bradshaw. She’s even been using the hastag “#BeLikeJustin”.
“I would love to hug you and your wife and just thank you,” Blasi told Bradshaw on Thursday.
