Judge Frank Caprio has been working in the Rhode Island Judicial system for a long time. He is 84-years-old and is the judge in a show that televised his judicial work in Providence, Rhode Island. While the show may not be as “reality tv dramatic” as some of the others, there are some really touching moments.

One woman actually made Judge Caprio cry!

In one episode of the show, we see an adult woman and her mother walk into the courtroom. Always lively, Judge Caprio asks who the older woman is, and when the daughter says it’s her mother, Judge Caprio responds with, “ahh, always saving the kids, right?” The room laughs, and they make a few other well-timed jokes.

The situation the woman is there for isn’t all that serious, thankfully.

Judge Caprio reads off the sheet and discovers that the woman is here because of a red light violation. As we get further into the story, we discover the situation was all just a big misunderstanding.

As Judge Caprio asks questions, it becomes clear what happened.

The woman who is accused of running the light explains that the car isn’t even her car! She didn’t know where the event happened and was a little confused about why this was being blamed on her.

In the video, we can even see that she didn’t recognize the car.

Judge Caprio reads on and discovers that the car isn’t even registered to her! The plates are registered to the local dealership that owns the car, and it’s the same place she bought her own car at.

Judge Caprio understood that she wasn’t at fault and exonerated her from the case… and then the mother wanted to tell a story.

Once the daughter was exonerated from the case, her mother asked if she could tell Judge Caprio a quick story. Amid groans from the people waiting in the courtroom, Judge Caprio agreed, but only if it was fast.

The woman explained how Judge Caprio’s father delivered milk to her own father, years ago.

As a smile broke out on Judge Caprio’s face, they told him the nickname they had for his dad: Tup of Toffee. As tears came to Judge Caprio’s face, he understood what happened. His father used to sell milk and fruit when it was below freezing outside, often without the right clothing.

His dad was so cold when he asked for a cup of coffee at a restaurant, he could only say “Tup of Toffee”. The nickname stuck.

Remembering what his father would do for the customers who couldn’t pay the bills, Judge Caprio got emotional. His father was a good man who did his best to care for his community. It’s not every day you see a judge cry!
