Sadly, not all brides are given the chance to do one last dance with their loving fathers.

Unfortunately, this was the case for Meredith Parnell now Meredith Parnell Kavanaugh.

Meredith’s dad, Lynn, had fought cancer for 12 long painful years. Days went by and cancer had slowly taken over his body, making him weak day after day.

Although it was hard, the family including Meredith, realized that Lynn might not live long enough until her wedding day. So, the bride-to-be came up with a brilliant but tear-jerking idea.

She planned of recording a video of their wedding dance together that they’re supposed to do on her special day. Meredith wanted to do it while Lynn still had the will and strength to do a quick father-daughter dance.

To get himself ready, Lynn reserved all his energy and rested all day before filming. On the other hand, Meredith looked for a beautiful wedding dress to wear.

Here comes the bride-to-be.

Upon seeing his lovely daughter in a beautiful wedding dress, Lynn couldn’t help but shed a tear. Meredith too had her tears rolling down her cheeks, it was indeed an emotional moment between the father and daughter.

Lynn even gave his beloved daughter a kiss on the hand before standing up. It simply showed how much he adored Meredith.

Although struggling, the brave father gathered all his strength to be on his feet. It may be his last time being able to dance with his daughter that’s why he decided not to let cancer take away his chance.

Soon, the father and daughter were both on their feet. Meredith and Lynn hugged each other tightly like there was no tomorrow, and shortly after, they started swaying to the slow and sweet rhythm of the song ‘Daughters’ by John Mayer.

That beautiful moment was both bitter and sweet not just for Meredith and Lynn but for their entire family. It must’ve been extremely hard knowing that sooner or later, someone very dear to your heart will be gone for eternity.

It’s hard not to cry while watching them.

“When my Dad and I were dancing, he told me how proud he was of me and how beautiful I looked — it became very much what it’d be like at my real wedding,”

Sadly, Lynn passed away two days after they filmed the father-daughter dance.

Then three years later, at long last, Meredith was able to make good use of the video. On her actual wedding day with her now husband, Bryan Kavanaugh, she played that last video of her and Lynn sharing their last dance together.

“THIS is why preserving memories is so incredibly important to me, because when I want to remember the way he looked, the way he smiled, and the way he talked….photographs and videos help to keep those priceless memories alive,” Along with the video, she wrote. “…Happy 3 years in Heaven Daddy, we sure do miss you down here and can’t wait to see you again!”
