Truth be told, the term “persons with disabilities” comes along with discrimination. Most of the time, they get insults from people who know nothing about the battles they’re going through every day.
Though they get special privileges in life, that doesn’t exclude them from the painful slur coming from the judgemental eyes of the community. It’s sad because it demoralizes them and it can bring them depression and anxiety.
However, that’s not always the case. The girl in this story will prove to us all that no disability can hinder her from reaching her dreams.

That’s exactly what Vitória Bueno from Santa Rita do Sapucaí, Brazil did.
She was born with no arms and being born in a remote rural community in Brazil is not an easy task. She became like an attraction to the residents. According to her mom, Wanda, some would even lift her sleeves to make sure there’s nothing inside.
All that didn’t topple down her spirits, she still pursued her dream of becoming a professional dancer.
Vitória showed interest in dancing at a very young age.
Actually, it was her physiotherapist who suggested that she try ballet dancing. With the undying support from her family, she got enrolled in a ballet dance class.
As expected, her mom was afraid at first. She didn’t get scared about Vitória not making it, she was worried that she might feel inferior to the other dancers. But all her doubts and fear disappeared when her daughter proved to her she can do it.
Vitória transformed into a talented dancer and she doesn’t mind a bit about her disability. For her, it’s not a disability at all.
“For me, my arms are just a detail. I dance, I follow with my eyes as if they (arms) were there. However, there is no difficulty or need to have them. I don’t feel like I need them at all.”
She is now 16 years old and still dancing her heart out to every beat of a song.
Vitória is now a regular dancer at the ballet academy in her hometown. Despite not having arms, her positive attitude gives her a different outlook on life, and that makes her an inspiration to everyone.
In fact, she has a huge following of 201,000 on her Instagram account. It’s another way for her to reach out to more people with disabilities who are on the verge of giving up on their dreams.
Actually, she doesn’t only do ballet dancing, she also does contemporary dance, tap dance, and jazz. Isn’t she amazing?
Dancing has also helped her in other aspects of life.
We know dancing as a strenuous activity, it requires physical strength, flexibility, and balance.
Dancing made her physically strong, especially on her feet. It is very important for her because she does almost everything using her feet. Because of her perspective in life, Vitória still manages to live like usual – no disability or whatsoever.
Her stepfather, Jose Carlos Perreira even said:
“At home, her day is like she has both arms. What she does is amazing. What she does with her feet I can’t do with my hand.”
May Vitória’s story inspire more people around the world. Especially to persons with disabilities who had already lost hope.
