Utah Jazz dancer’s wrong moves were just part of the plan.
When Danielle Bush stepped out with her fellow Utah Jazz dance squad members, she was ready to nail her routine. After countless hours of practice, these ladies don’t miss a beat. However, during one recent performance, Danielle found herself dancing the wrong moves in front of a packed arena. As a seasoned pro, she tried to make the best out of the situation by attempting to follow along. After 20 agonizing seconds of not knowing what was happening, Danielle suddenly hears the song change to Bruno Mars’ Marry You.
A special guest appears on the court.
As the realization hits her, Danielle’s boyfriend, Brandon walks onto the court surprising her and everyone else in the stadium. He walks over to her as she is overcome with emotion.
His plan goes off without a hitch.
Brandon pops the question while kneeling in front of Danielle and she happily accepts his proposal. After more than a month of planning, Brandon was able to work with Utah Jazz Dancers Director, Ashley Kelson, to make the surprise special for Danielle. She agreed that they needed to go big for Danielle. “I wanted to make it big and special for her for sure,” Kelson told KSL News “Making it a part of the routine was so much fun.”
From embarrassment to ‘happily ever after.’
The dance team was able to keep the secret plan under wraps by telling Danielle to attend a special event at the same time the team was rehearsing the revised routine. That would be the only time the team would have time to learn the new moves.
The couple’s unique engagement story quickly went viral.
The sweet surprise proposal was featured on major news outlets and the couple was shocked at how fast it swept the internet. Kelson told KSL News, “I knew it was going to be big and special, but to see the response from the community and just the people, the crowd, it got a huge response. The sports world in general has had an awesome response to it — that was a surprise for me. But the joy that we all saw from them, it was so special. So for everyone to come together and celebrate that with her was just so awesome to see.”

Before Danielle realized that this would be one of the happiest moment of her life, she was worried this might be the end of her Utah Jazz dance career. She told KSL News how she tried to remain professional during all the confusion. “Dancers are trained that any time that we miss a move that we just don’t show it on our face.”
Brandon’s plan was flawless.
He spoke to KSL News about how he was able to keep it a secret. “She didn’t know where or when or how,” said Brandon. He also told the outlet that he was in awe of the response it got from the sports world.
A proposal to remember.
Brandon and Danielle are off to a great start. Their sweet engagement story is definitely one to beat.
