If you’ve ever gotten yourself into a situation where you were too far into it to stop, but also too far into it to see how you are going to finish, you will totally understand this story! Moving is a big deal and living in a place where life is TOTALLY different than what it used to be can be overwhelming. For Madison and Blake Mealy, that was exactly the case.
The Mealys decided to make a huge life change, but it came with a lifestyle change they weren’t expecting!
Blake Mealy had been studying for over two years when he decided he was done. He didn’t want to finish his schooling and instead wanted to become a bigger part of his small kids’ lives. With that in mind, they decided to make a big move – to the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia!
As picturesque as it sounded, the physical change also included a lifestyle change.
The family realized just how much of a change this was going to be for them when Blake went out to mow the lawn for the very first time. For most of his life, a simple push mower was plenty fine for the small yards that he was used to. As he was about to learn, that most definitely wasn’t the case.
Heading out with grandeur, Blake began mowing the massive property using a “tiny mower,” all with his baby strapped to his back.
While he had the baby, Madison got to work inside, showering, tidying up, and taking care of a few other things. Soon, however, she realized that hours had passed and Blake STILL wasn’t inside! When she went to look, she was shocked. Working methodically for hours, Blake hadn’t even put a dent into the massive lawn that needed to be mowed.
As the couple realized that they were woefully equipped to tackle this massive job, the cavalry arrived.
Some of their neighbors had seen Blake struggling for a few hours and decided to help. With the sound of engines starting, multiple neighbors all rolled up with their personal equipment! Within moments the yard had a handful of people taking care of huge swaths of the overgrown lawn. Blake finally had some backup.
As Madison watched, she realized that they may have been ill-equipped to mow the lawn, but they had just moved into a place where neighbors looked after one another!
Posting a TikTok video online, she explained the story to her viewers. As anyone could imagine, the response was overwhelming. The internet loved seeing how warm-hearted these strangers were and how willing they were to help.
Posted on June 15th, the video has already been seen over 18 million times, liked 4.3 million times, and shared over 20k times.
It goes to show that reminders of the good of people always seem to do well! The next step for the Mealy family? Invest in a lawn mower designed for the property! Maybe it’s time to get one of those John Deere mowers that everyone’s been talking about down at the general store…
