“He’s the glue that holds our family together,” is a sentiment many can relate to when thinking about that one special person who keeps everything running smoothly.
It’s not uncommon for men to yearn for a fresh start or a new look, though they might not always voice this desire.
After all, they might worry it seems a bit too sentimental for their taste.
What’s a rugged, unpolished guy to do?
Fortunately for Mike Weiss and Ron Madden, they have two very vocal and supportive women in their lives.
Rebecca, Mike’s wife, and Kate, Ron’s daughter, weren’t shy about advocating for their beloved men.
They reached out to the Today show’s Hoda and Kathy Lee, hoping to secure a spot for the duo in an Ambush Makeover.
As if by fate, their timing was impeccable.
Hairstylist Louis Licari and Today show contributor Jill Martin were on the hunt for deserving gentlemen to surprise for Father’s Day.
And so, the stage was set for a transformation.
Rebecca’s letter painted a picture of Mike as a man of many hats: caretaker, father, and all-around superhero, especially during her battle with a serious health issue.
With his plate overflowing, Mike’s personal grooming had taken a backseat.
But after a day with the Ambush Makeover squad, Mike emerged with a new moniker to add to his repertoire – “studmuffin.”
Hoda and Kathy Lee got the first peek at his revamped appearance, and once the applause and whistles died down, Rebecca was treated to the sight of her dashing husband.
“Take off your blindfolds. Look at Daddy!”
The reveal was met with gasps of surprise.
Mike’s signature curls were still there, but the restyled hair left his son Franklin and the rest of the family marveling at the man who looked like a stranger yet familiar.
Mike himself was taken aback by his reflection, jokingly remarking after Hoda’s comment about his Grateful Dead-esque past, “Wow. I haven’t seen that guy in a long time!”
The mirror now reflected someone who hadn’t been seen for years.
There was yet another person’s transformation for a Father’s Day refresh was 63-year-old Ron Madden.
Kate’s letter described him as selfless, always prioritizing others over himself.
Yet, she had an ulterior motive – she was campaigning to rid her father of his overgrown mustache, much to the amusement of Hoda and Kathy Lee.
Did Kate’s wish come to fruition? The moment Ron stepped out, the look on Kate’s face was priceless.
“That’s your basic movie star! You’re ready for your closeup,” they exclaimed.
