Brian Maixner didn’t have a pearly white smile, but he had a sunny disposition and would smile as if he did.

Maixner, a 45-year-old single father, was hired by Doo Dah Diner owner Timrie Shibley and her husband in November 2013.

“The first thing we thought was, ‘What an outstanding server,'” Shibley told Daily News. “Yes, his teeth were offensive, but the second time you meet him you don’t think about his teeth. He smiles so big with eyes. He makes such a big impression.”

It’s his big personality that charmed a diner named Fred Boettcher at the Wichita, Kan. restaurant who left him with an estimated $25,000 tip to get his teeth fixed.

Maixner’s teeth were rotted by tooth decay and Boettcher could sympathize.

“He had a lot of dental issues as a kid and he told me ‘I can do this and I should do it,'” Maixner said. “That’s the way he looks at it.”

Maixner wasn’t able to afford dental treatment when he was young and his teeth just got worse after that. He told Daily News that his teeth made him self-conscious but it didn’t affect him on the job as a server for 20 years.

Boettcher’s Christian faith is what lead him to help Mainer.

“The way to be satisfied in your life is to be kind to everybody and be as generous as you can possibly be,” Boettcher told CNN.

Boettcher felt that there was something special about Maixner and asked Shibley how he could help him.

She was extremely shocked by this.

“He just said, ‘I know this sounds crazy, but I want to help him,'” Shibley said. “He said he had done this for nine or 10 other people, and has lived a blessed life and wanted to help.”

When Shibley broke the news to Maixner the two both embraced and cried together.

Shibley shared the Doo-Dah’s good news in a Facebook post.

“If you were in the diner today … and wondered why some of the staff were walking around a little teary … it’s because one of Brian’s customers today gifted him with a complete dental makeover as a way to pay it forward for the many blessings he’s received in his life,” she wrote.

“Brian will be starting the makeover in the next couple of weeks, and was quite moved….if you know Brian, he always has a smile and aims to please regardless of how his teeth appeared. Now he has been blessed …stay tuned for “after” photos. Good really does happen in this world….oh the magic of Doo-Dah!”

Maixner got his new dentures on March 2 and will be fitted for permanent implants by the end of the year.

He’s now spending time getting used to his new teeth.

“It’s so great. It’s a huge weight off of my shoulders,” Maixner told the Daily News. “I just have this new appreciation for my health.”

Maixner looks like a completely new man with his new teeth but says he was still smiling without them.

“I just decided to smile through it and show people that there are still good people and no matter how bad you look, appearance isn’t everything,” he explained.
