Say Yee Haw

The video opens with our three dancers; Drama, Thays, and Warlei coming together as Gretchen Wilson’s opening instrumentals play. The dancers are staged on a court with a slightly damp stage, with a barn yard in the backdrop. The dancers are dressed to the nines in their country western best, with blue jeans and boots and fashionable stetson-style hats.

A spin jump kicks off the lyrics as the camera zooms in and out to emphasize the dancers choreography. Every movement is lively and bouncy. Every moment is magic.

Who needs high class?

Gretchen Wilson’s song plays while the dancers perform. The camera zooms in and out punctuating lyrics about loving life on the blue-collar side of things. You don’t need to be a country fan to appreciate music that celebrates the ordinary side of life. The spins, kicks, and sashays across the stage are matched with lyrics including:

I ain’t no high class broad
I’m just a product of my rasin’
And I say “hey y’all” and “Yee Haw”

This love of common blue collar living is most obvious when you see how the dancers perform. There’s no hand holding like you might see in a ballroom dance. It’s all about the fun and lively line dancing that lights up country music halls across the United States.

Keep it country

The video never misses a beat, even as it hard cuts to different backdrops and sets. But don’t think you’ll see a major music studio or a green screen effect. This is country music and that means keeping it simple.

The dance steps take us to a side shot beneath what might be an outdoor garage. There’s even a few parts where the dancers perform in front of a wall with a small blank of wood behind them. You can almost see these performers in the background of Gretchen Wilson’s official music video.

Why bow? Tip your hat

The pace never falls during the video. Every step and chorus is met with an energy that makes you want to get up and clap, dance, or shout YEE HAW. When this was performed at the Comitiva magia country show, you can bet that the crowd was shouting loud and proud.

But even great songs and shows can’t last forever. After another round of chorus lyrics, the video returns to the indoor shot. The gold colored bull stands watch as the troupe reaches a central position. As Gretchen Wilson’s final lyrics and notes comes to a stop, the dancers tip their hats and smile at the crowd.

Country Western Woman

Every dancer sells this performance, but Thays is clearly the star of the show. She leads the steps and is simply the biggest part of the production. She’s never far from the center of the frame and it’s easy to see why.

From her warm inviting smile and her strong enchanting dance steps, you’d be hard pressed to look away. She even features early and often on the country show’s Facebook page. If you had the chance, would you come out to see Thays and company perform live? Even if you aren’t a fan of country music, this song is sure to make you appreciate country western living.
