It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does – it’s magical. That’s love at first sight, of course.
And that’s what happened between Janice Rude and Prentiss Wilson. The pair met at Occidental College in the 1960s. They happened to meet in the dining hall because that’s where Janice was working at the time. They fell for each other almost immediately.
Then, when the two went their separate ways for Thanksgiving break, Janice just knew that it was going to be too much time apart. Therefore, she showed up at his house in Santa Maria where he was spending time with family. He showed her around town, they kissed and held hands, and from that point on, they knew that they just had to get married.
They went so far as to get engaged at that point.
They just knew that they were meant to be and didn’t want to have to wait longer than necessary. The pair even announced their engagement in the local newspaper because they were so excited about their future together.
But Prentiss went to meet Janice’s family for the first time, and things didn’t exactly go as planned.
Apparently, Janice’s father didn’t like the boy and wanted Janice to find someone else to date and marry. He threatened to cut off Janice’s tuition. That just wouldn’t work for her. She knew that she had to have a college degree, so she decided to go through with a breakup.
The experience was extremely hard on both of them.
They still thought about each other all the time. But they had to move on with their lives and ended up marrying different people. However, when Prentiss’ mom died in the 1990s, he started to go through her stuff. He found a clipping from the local newspaper about their wedding engagement that his mom had kept.
What’s even crazier is the fact that Janice’s mom had done the same thing. Even though neither of these women had met before, they both had a similar feeling that told them to keep those clippings.
About 10 years later, Janice and Prentiss finally met up again.
It had been years and years since they had seen each other. In fact, they hadn’t seen each other since they were both in college. They had brunch together, and they could tell right away that they were still meant to be together.
That’s where this story takes a positive turn. Now that there was nothing to keep them apart, they decided to take the leap and get married. All those years after their initial engagement and here they were: ready to get married again.
They decided to get married where they met.
The couple held the wedding at Occidental College in a beautiful courtyard on campus. Their wedding was held on a beautiful day and will be something that the pair remember forever – even if it ended up happening later than they had originally planned.
Now, the couple is happily married and enjoying each other’s company.
Although life and their circumstances tried to keep them apart, they were able to find a way to come back together again. It seems they were meant to be. And when you have a love story like this, how could that not be the case?
