Dance is a skill that many practice, but few master. It is hard enough to dance with someone you know, but imagine having to do so with someone you hardly know. In fact, most couples paired at random probably couldn’t dance in unison, much less perform something as complicated as swing dancing.
One couple showed off their dance skills after being chosen at random at Budafest, and their performance wowed the crowd.
What is Budafest?
Held in Budapest, Hungary each year, Budafest is an unusual dance event that focuses on “West Coast Swing.” West Coast Swing was made popular on the west coast of the U.S. but is now enjoyed in countries around the world.
Invitational Jack & Jill dance-off
As a part of the Budafest festivities, random couples are picked to dance together as a part of the Invitational Jack & Jill dance-off held on Sundays at the festival. First, a random couple is picked. Next, the couple must choose from amongst three songs. Finally, they have to dance to the selected song, all in front of the crowd.
The couple pick their song
For this particular number, Jordan Frisbee and Emeline Rochefeuille are paired up. After introductions are made it is time to pick the music that they will dance to.
The couple focuses on the music as a snippet of the first song choice is played. After listening to the next selection, the couple agrees that that is one they want to dance to. It is the Los Del Río’s swing version of the 90s dance tune, “Macarena.”
Dancing together like old friends
As the music begins to play, the couple begins to dance. They are obvious pros at dancing, smoothly moving between dance moves. And even though they have never danced together before, they seem like old friends as they work their magic on the dance floor.
Jordan seems to be following Emeline’s lead as she seems to be the more fluid of the two, using practiced moves learned from years of experience. Jordan does hold his own, though, and is a perfect compliment to Emeline’s free-flowing style.
Wowing the crowd
The crowd really gets into it as the couple twists and turns across the dance floor. Soon, Jordan and Emeline have the crowd eating out of their hand as they perform dance move after dance move, mesmerizing the crowd.
Too soon, the song is done and Jordan and Emeline embrace, realizing that they have performed something special.
