15 days before Christmas, couple Kate and Brandon went to the streets to find their missing child, Micah.
Instead of preparing for Christmas, they were preparing flyers to find their son.
Micah has special needs.
The situation was a nightmare.
This is a suitable description of what any parent would feel.
What the couple also worried about was that Micah can’t communicate well with other people.
The more they worried, the more they took action.
They reported to the authorities what happened immediately.
Fox 26 Houston also reported this case.
Kate couldn’t sleep for many nights and they did their best to communicate through printed flyers and on social media as well.
Miraculously, they found Micah.
Thankfully, he was found safe and sound. And in good company, too.
Someone in the neighborhood found Micah 5 miles away from Southeast Houston.
The neighbor called Kate immediately and sent her a photo of Micah.
The couple went to see him right away.
From there, Micah shared his story.
According to him, the night he went missing, a homeless couple took him in.
They don’t have much but the couple made sure to give Micah food every day and they also washed his clothes.
The couple also provided other clothes to keep Micah warm because it was winter.
Kate considers the couple as Micah’s angels.
They didn’t do it for recognition.
These angels requested to not share their identity or location with Fox 26 Houston.
What the couple did for Micah is really beyond admirable.
The Good Samaritans didn’t know that people were looking for Micah because they don’t have social media.
Tips for when children go missing
We don’t like to happen this to us but in case it happened, here’s the list of tips you want to do according to Safewise:
- Call the authorities. Like what Kate did. She informed the local law enforcement right away.
- Be prepared with your child’s information. Being in panic mode is understandable but make sure that you have important information about your child such as full name, weight, height, age, clothes the child was last seen wearing, identifying features such as glasses or birthmark available.
- Make sure to show and print the latest picture of your child. The photo should be recent and clear.
- Look in your immediate area. Don’t leave yet where you last saw your child. Sometimes, children tend to hide and fall asleep. Always make sure to look at different parts of your home.
- Make yourself available. The first 48 hours after a child goes missing are critical. Keep your phone open at all times.
- In Kate’s case, she used social media to alert everyone in the social space. And that really worked.
Finally, the family was complete.
December 28, 3 days before Micah’s 18th Birthday, he was reunited with his parents and family.
According to Kate, she’s now at peace. Finally, her family is complete.
Kate advises other parents to make sure that their child memorizes their phone number and addresses so kids can tell others how to help them get back home.
