Bobbie and Richard Watkins are pretty routine oriented. Every week they would go to Chick-Fil-A for a meal. They never ever missed a week.
As a result, they got pretty familiar with the staff.
“The staff got to know them, even down to their order. They would set their table with flowers on special occasions, give them their order and say ‘it’s on me’ some days. They went above and beyond for my sweet grandparents,” their granddaughter Lindsay Naramore McGuffey said in a Facebook post.
As time passed, the Watkins’ grew older. As a result, Richard started experiencing health problems.
So, their “religious” ritual of going to Chik-Fil-A each week was put on hold.
The restaurant’s staff started to become worried when they didn’t see the Watkins’. They decided they would take it upon themselves to track them down.
“They knew their children/grandchildren worked in the Pike school system, so they contacted teachers they knew here, but they didn’t know their last name, so they couldn’t find them,” McGuffey explained.
But their search didn’t stop there!
“They described them as a big family, with lots of land, who all live “together”. After recruiting help, searching churches, and searching the schools, they finally found them!” McGuffey said.
The first thing they did was send over a meal directly to their house.
“And look what happened next… a delivery to their house, with their order… down to salad dressings and how many packages of nuts they like on their salads. They drove all the way to ‘the compound’ to see their favorite couple and deliver a meal to them in a time of need,” McGuffey said.
Bobbie sent her granddaughter a snapshot of the happy visit from Chick-Fil-A.
“When my nana sent me this picture, I cried. To me my grandparents are saints- but to see that other people love them just as much is so special,” McGuffey said. “Thank you Griffin Chick-Fil-A for being beyond generous and giving. I am blown away by what I witnessed today.”
McGuffey says the Chick-Fil-A staff are “angels.”
“There are angels on this earth,” she said. “Keep your eyes open for the good through all the bad in this world.”
People around the world were touched by McGuffey’s story and it eventually went viral. It’s a story about true customer service and kindness, both which is hard to see in companies these days.
