Technology is one of those things that often feel like it hinders us more than helps, particularly when trying to print something. While that may feel true, there are certain situations where we sure are thankful that an app or a device exists to help us with EXACTLY what we needed. For one couple, technology ended up saving all of their valuable possessions!
This Denver couple was in their garden when something crazy happened.
Jodi and Andy Stemple live in Denver, Colorado, and were tending their garden when Jodi decided she wanted a break. When she went inside, she was shocked to learn that something was wrong – all of their valuables had gone missing right behind their backs.
With a heavy realization, they learned that they had been robbed while they were in their own backyard!
“We watched the footage from the doorbell, and then it was shock,” Andy Stemple said. – Denver Channel
They were RIGHT around the corner when it happened, but they had others ways of getting their things back.
“I was literally up at the front corner of the yard when this happened,” he said.
Using the “Find My Phone” app that nearly all iPhones have installed, they started tracking the thief.
The thief had stolen their son’s phone and the couple decided they wanted to do some of their own sleuthing. Using the app, they tracked the man around the city from one location to the next. For the first few stops they weren’t successful. When they got to the spot they saw him sitting on the phone, he was gone.
“We went through this phantom Find [My] car chase trying to find him, and every time we got there, he was gone,” Andy Stemple said.
Finally, they chased him to a local bank and confronted him.
The man was trying to cash one of the stolen checks at the bank when Andy arrived. The teller denied him once they realized what was going on and the situation went outside. Andy got his phone and laptop but the man ran off before they were able to get their wallets back.
Instead of being scared, the couple is determined to live their lives.
“You shouldn’t let somebody else decide how your lifestyle is going to be in your own home,” Andy Stemple said.
With that kind of mindset, it’s no wonder they chased a thief down in broad daylight to get their stuff back! After a conversation with the police, they learned that the man had also broken into a car and had left with it from the bank. There’s currently a reward being offered for information!
