Shopping at Costco isn’t like your typical grocery store outing.
Really, it can be an entire experience! Between the endless aisles, free samples, and holiday items – it’s no wonder people can spend a long time there.
Another thing about Costco is you never know what you’re going to find. But even with that said, it’s not common that you run into a breathtaking musical performance!
Customers who were shopping at a store in Torrance, California one day were lucky enough to be given an impromptu show.
It all started when a female customer walked up to a display of pianos.
The woman (who’s now known as “Costco Piano Girl”) had become intrigued by a salesman playing “Killing Me Softly” on one of the instruments.
Being in the music field herself, she decided to approach – and after speaking they decided to perform a duet together.
In the video, both the woman and the worker are seated at pianos. He then begins playing a very beautiful and familiar tune.
The pair had decided to combine skills for a piano rendition of Adele’s song “Somebody Like You.”
Just a few moments later, the woman joins in with her own instrument.
Right away it’s apparent that they’re both talented musicians and it’s going to be a spectacular performance.
Other customers and employees turn to watch.
While there are plenty of shoppers that continue to go about their business, some people seem captivated by the piano players’ song.
A father is standing nearby holding onto his toddler son during the show.
They even sweetly dance together to the music as if they’re truly appreciating it.
Although they’d never met each other before, they make a fantastic musical duo.
Both of them know how to play “Somebody Like You” by heart, which is a song that topped the charts in multiple countries.
According to the salesman (Justin Romanowich), it all “flowed” naturally for them.
In addition to the people in Costco getting to enjoy their song, the video quickly spread all across the internet too.
Since the performance was uploaded, it’s been viewed over 14.2 million times.
That’s pretty amazing for an impromptu duet that occurred on just an ordinary day!
During the performance, some random piano notes can be heard from children on the other instruments.
However, it doesn’t take away from how beautiful the duet is.
Costco Piano Girl, who’s a board-certified music therapist, shared the following message on YouTube (which addresses the children). After explaining the story, it says:
“Never would I have guessed that this video was going to hit millions of views! I really appreciate all the love and support everyone has shown!”
She continues:
“Many of you have left words of encouragement and support in the comments and many have also made comments about the children. I would ask that you would see the “imperfections” in the music as humanness in all of us. The extra notes in this video, although not initially intended, added flavor and uniqueness to the whole experience. I hope we can all see it as the children improvising along with us. They wanted to make music too!”
