A thread about bad “Nice Guys” leads into a captivating story
A Reddit post asked for the women of Reddit to share their worst “Nice Guy” experiences. We don’t mean legitimate nice guys who care about a woman’s feelings, but the “Nice Guys” who think that women owe them for their time. Many of these stories are upsetting to read, but if you look, you might come across one post made by user ThrowAwayForPancakes. Their story showed how uncomfortable some men can be and how heroic others will be.
It didn’t take long for this Redditor to know that something wasn’t right
The user was spending an evening at a restaurant with his girlfriend when he overheard a date in the next booth over that wasn’t going over well. The woman was clearly feeling uncomfortable as she was rushing through her appetizers. ThrowAwayForPancakes knew what was going on since they could hear the crude and inappropriate language used by her date. What should have been a lovely evening was quickly turning darker.
The man was disgusting and rude, but the worst part was…
The Redditor talked about one thing they remembered. When the guy noticed that his date was eating her appetizers quickly, he commented that “well, least I know you can swallow right?”. This clearly upset the woman as she leaned over and said something that clearly communicated that she didn’t appreciate his unwanted advances and that she absolutely didn’t want to sleep with him.
Five words that told him that this woman was in danger
It would have ended there if the man took the hint. But he was so self-centered that he took it one step further. He looked the woman in her eyes and uttered five words that rang every alarm bell in the redditor’s head:
“I know where you live”
He couldn’t stand by and let this go on, but he wasn’t alone…
Now the Redditor admits that they normally don’t get involved when things are going bad. But they couldn’t accept sitting there with such an obvious and dangerous threat. So they pushed away from the table to do something about it. The Redditor was 23, fighting fit, and was more than willing to put the jerk through the wall if he had to. They were halfway out of their chair when a hand came down on their shoulder. They look up and see a man in his mid-50s who’s super-fit and has absolute confidence in his voice when he says:
“Easy. I’ve got this one, son.”
The Redditor was ready to go, but knew that his plan A was to “stab the jerk in the neck” so he decided to trust this older gentleman.
What he thought would become an action movie scene turned into…
The man turns a nearby chair around, sits at the pair’s table, and puts down a Police ID. The Redditor remembers seeing the color drain from the man’s face. He watches as the officer lays down the law. The officer explains that he heard the threat loud and clear and that he could call for back-up and have them take the man away, but he’d rather avoid disrupting everyone’s dinner.
So he offers the man another option:
“so how about you hand me your ID, because I wouldn’t want you running off on me, then you go see one of the staff here and settle your bill.. the full bill now, this young lady shouldn’t go hungry on account of your poor behaviour. Or we can go with the first option, I’ll leave it up to you.”
While the jerk was away, the officer had something to say
The man wisely chooses to hand over his ID and go and pay the bill. When he’s away, the officer turns from stern officer to kind father and tells the young woman that she’s safe. He promises to have an officer take her home if she wants and offers to let her join his family as they finish their meal. The woman gratefully accepts.
A happy ending after a tense situation and it all started when everyone heard five ugly words
ThrowAwayForPancakes ends their story with a happy note. As he and his girlfriend left, the woman, the officer, and his family were still chatting away having a great time.
Stories like these often start out upsetting or scary. But it’s nice to see that all it takes is for a good person to hear five terrible words, to make them spring into action and make sure a restaurant remains safe.
